Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for participants in 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, confident, and healthy using an experience-based curriculum, which creatively integrates running. The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education on important topics such as goal setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event. The research-based curriculum teaches participants social-emotional skills while also encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle and harness the inner strength that they possess. Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls, anyone who identifies asfemale, gender-expansive, and non-binary participants the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today.
A 501(c)3, Girls on the Run – DC is one of over 150 independent councils of Girls on the Run International. The Washington, D.C. council was founded in 2006 and the program has grown from serving 9 girls on one team in Ward 3 in fall 2006 to serving 2,000 participants a year in all 8 Wards of the District.
Responsibilities
The Program & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the Girls on the Run - DC programs and volunteers. The Girls on the Run -DC Program & Outreach Coordinator must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. Reporting to the Program Director, the Program & Outreach Coordinator is a full-time employee. Some nights and weekend hours are needed for volunteer events. The key responsibilities of the Program & Outreach Coordinator are:
Program Management
- Assist in achieving the Girls on the Run strategic program plan and goals with respect to number of participants, number of sites, scholarship and demographic goals
- Coordinate and assist in marketing to existing sites
- Support in the execution of the celebratory 5K event at the conclusion of each season
- Work with Program Director to generate and execute innovation and improvement as needed
Volunteer Management
- Ensure all program sites are staffed with qualified volunteer coaches and site liaisons
- Coordinate all aspects of volunteer coach and site liaison training, including GOTR training, CPR & First Aid, and background checks
- Assist with development and implement all volunteer recruitment and management strategies, including volunteer appreciation plan
- Enforce all current coaching policies and procedures
- Coordinate race day volunteers and details; communicate race day specifics with coaches
- Work with Program Director to generate and execute continuous improvements in volunteer recruitment and management
Program Administration
- Purchase and distribute all curriculum materials including coach bags, coach manuals, and program equipment
- Manage inventory and distribution of coach and program curriculum, materials and supplies.
- Oversee shoe scholarship program
- Primarily responsible for managing coach and site data; assist Program Director in assembling program related data for reports
- Manage all volunteer files, site files and other program-related paperwork
- Provide 5K support
Technology/Communications
- Coordinate program related content for GOTR-DC website and social media pages with the Communications Director
- Manage image repository for the program
- Create and distribute GOTR-DC newsletters to coaches and families
Qualifications
Required
- BA or BS degree (or commensurate experience) and 2-3 years of work experience
- Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences (internal and external)
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions
- Resilience to handle a dynamic work environment while maintaining quality outcomes
- Self-motivation, the ability to work independently, and lead groups of volunteers
- Flexible and adaptable
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Resides in Washington, DC Metropolitan Area
Preferred
- Experience with Girls on the Run (or other similaryouth development or wellness programs)
- Non-profit management experience
- Connections to the local community
Position Specifics
- This is a full-time position designed to work 40 hrs./week. Salary $50,000/yr.
- In addition to traditional office hours, the Program & Outreach Coordinator is expected to work occasional weekend and evenings to participate in scheduled events and meetings as the work of the organization requires
