About Girls Preparatory School

The mission of Girls Preparatory School (GPS) is to inspire each girl to lead a life of integrity and purpose by engaging her mind, cultivating her strengths, and nurturing her self-confidence and respect for others. Currently, 130 faculty and staff serve approximately 500 girls in grades 6-12 with a college preparatory curriculum that includes a full complement of courses in the humanities, STEM, the arts, and more, as well as a rich and varied co- curricular program. 

 

GPS prioritizes healthy connections and relationships, fostering a culture where each girl is known, heard, and empowered to use her voice. This culture of acceptance and belonging nurtures and lifts her up in mind, body, and spirit so that she can find her place and discover her potential with confidence and joy for dynamic engagement in a rapidly changing world.

Teaching Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Division Head(s), the person in this role will:

 

Summary
Implements the daily instructional plans of the classroom.  Maintains a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students while maintaining proper classroom management. Works effectively with the teachers to minimize any potential transition problems from teacher to substitute and substitute to teacher.  

  • Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
  • Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
  • Knows school procedures and regulations. 
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the division head(s)

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or post-graduate work in subject matter and/or counseling.
  • Teaching and administration experience in an independent school environment preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
