EHS Specialist Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Environmental/Health/Safety Trainer
- Conducts onboarding training for all new employees on a weekly basis
- Conducts refresher training for all employees per yearly training schedule
- Conducts additional clarification training for all employees as required due to incidents/violations
- Develops/modifies training programs to address existing and new EHS issues
Environmental/Health/Safety Employee Outreach
- Promotes and manages Near-Miss program throughout facility, including being point-source for collection and coordination of corrective actions
- Attends individual department meetings as representative for EHS
- Regularly surveys/monitors production floor for employee EHS concerns and addresses with supervision
- Develops and promotes EHS health outreach programs in conjunction with external health agencies, including but not limited to local medical liaisons (lunch & learn, health fairs, etc.) and insurance providers
- Develops and promotes fire and emergency safety outreach programs in conjunction with external agencies, including but not limited to local fire and emergency response agencies and property insurance providers.
- Coordinates emergency evacuation drills (fire, adverse weather, etc.), monitors for effectiveness and recommends corrections/improvements
- Chooses and initiates weekly safety talks and bulletins for individual departmental start-up meetings
- Develops and posts monthly employee EHS information throughout the facility
- Develops and posts employee safety alerts as required throughout the facility
- Oversees employee safety committee, including membership, training, and monthly meetings
- Oversees employee first responder program, including membership and training
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Control and Monitoring
- Responsible for PPE distribution and availability to all employees
- Responsible for proper PPE determination based on job hazard analysis
- Primary liaison with PPE vendor to ensure optimum pricing and availability
- Oversees vendor management of safety shoe store and employee provision based on company policy for time and type
- Oversees PPE stocking control and product evaluation including addressing any PPE quality issues
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (cont.)
Cost Savings Generation and Reporting
- Examines potential in projects for cost savings generation
- Gathers data to clarify/justify cost savings reporting
- Reports cost savings as monthly KPI for EHS Department
Incident Response
- Trained for EHS incident response, including but not limited to COVID/Bloodborne Pathogen decontamination, non-hazardous spill response, and injury triage
- Primary EHS employee relations communication source for incident information
- Participates in incident investigations/reviews to determine root-cause analysis
- Communicates corrective actions for incidents to all departments/employees
EHS Project Work
- Coordinates proper non-hazardous waste disposal methods with employees, sets up collection areas as required
- Coordinates recycling programs with all employees, including but not limited to oil pads, batteries, and office paper
- Coordinates additional project work and issues as directed under the guidance of the EHS Engineer and the EHS Manager
Education/Experience
Associate degree or higher requested
- Equivalent work experience acceptable as determined by the EHS Manager
- Background in science-related field, esp. EHS, preferred
Additional certifications are also preferred
- ASP
- OSHA 10 or 40-hour certification
- OSHA Trainer certification
- Teaching/Supervision
Willingness to pursue continuing education is preferred, either formal or self-taught
Competency in standard MSOffice applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is required.
Work Structure
Reports to EHS Manager
Standard hours 7 am until 3:30 pm
Work hours will vary with some OT required
Requirement to schedule time spent on all shifts and weekends to drive outreach to all employees
Work organization is mainly self-determined with oversight as deemed necessary by the EHS Manager; must be a self-starter who can drive results without prompting
