Mechanical Service Technician

Job Description

Great Lakes Power is looking to grow our team by adding an additional service technician to our Chesapeake VA facility. We sell and service mechanical power transmission products including Marine Transmissions, Mechanical Clutches, Powershift Transmissions, Drive Axles, Torque Convertors and Electronic Control Systems. Our customers cover a variety of industries ranging from Commercial Fishing, Heavy Construction Equipment, Airports, Material Handling, Wood Processing, Yachts, and more. The diverse products and industries that we service create a job that is always providing opportunities for technicians to grow their knowledge base. We perform complete overhauls and minor repairs for customers depending on their needs.

We provide factory-based training classes and partner you with other employees to provide on the job training. Candidates should have a strong demonstrated mechanical ability, attention to detail, familiarity working with measuring tools (calipers, dial indicators, depth micrometers), and the ability to follow specific factory processes during reassembly.

We provide both in-shop and on-site service to the commercial marine and industrial markets. Our technicians go on a variety of calls ranging from minor seal leaks to in-vessel overhauls. In addition to the mechanical aspect of the job we also service electronic propulsion controls systems. We are looking for a candidate that is comfortable with both in shop and field work. We represent several major manufacturers to include Twin Disc, Dana, Funk, Glendinning, ZF, etc.

This position also provides an opportunity for candidates experienced in electronics and electrical work. An increasing portion of our business involves troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing electrical systems and electronics on a variety of commercial vehicles. Typically, this involves simple 12/24VDC vehicle systems, but we have several technicians who specialize in more sophisticated control systems running CAN BUS systems. Training will be provided for candidates who show interest in expanding into this field. Electrical experience is not required but is a plus.

Pay varies with experience, and overtime is generally available on a weekly basis (although usually not mandatory).
