Position Overview:
GL Solutions is seeking a Part-Time Ballistic Research Assistant to support the research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) related to ammunition, weapons, and protective armor at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge ballistic research and testing in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct structured ballistic research, with an emphasis on testing ammunition, ballistic protective garments, and weapons.
- Operate and maintain Oehler Ballistic Instruments (models 83, 85, 88, and 89) for accurate data collection.
- Support testing techniques such as function testing, accuracy testing, destructive testing, and ammunition assimilability testing.
- Assist with photographing and recording ballistic testing using digital still photography, digital imaging, videotaping, and motion analysis equipment.
- Prepare clear and detailed reports and documents using common computer software.
- Provide expertise in firearms and ammunition testing, including Piezoelectric Conformal Transducers and pressure testing analysis.
- Support the training and instruction of firearms techniques and protocols, as required.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- A Medical field doctorate from an accredited university OR a Juris Doctor/Doctorate degree.
Experience:
- Secret Security Clearance
- Minimum of 10 years conducting structured ballistic research, with a focus on testing ammunition, ballistic protective garments, and weapons.
- Expert knowledge of ballistic research techniques including the use of Oehler Ballistic Instruments (models 83, 85, 88, and 89).
- Proficiency in firearms testing techniques, such as function, accuracy, and destructive testing.
- Proven experience in the use and troubleshooting of Piezoelectric Conformal Transducers and analyzing pressure testing results.
- Ability to effectively photograph and document testing using digital photography, video equipment, and motion analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- FBI (or equivalent) certification as a firearms instructor, observer/sniper, and police instructor.
- Experience as a law enforcement officer, with tactical training experience.
- Familiarity with firearms issued by the FBI, including Glock models, SIG Sauer pistols, Remington 870 shotguns, Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns, and Colt pattern rifles.
- Significant teaching experience in firearms-related training.

Work Schedule:
- Part-Time position with flexible hours.
- Hours are negotiable based on project needs.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $49.50 - $69.50 per hour
