What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Needs Program Lead Instructor position at Glacial Community YMCA?
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Do you have a passion for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities? Are you also passionate about fitness and want to share that passion with others? We are looking for someone to work in our Thursday night Fitness Friends program helping teens and adults with disabilities to find a love for fitness and learn more about how to improve their physical and mental well being through exercise. This position will also help out with our monthly Fun Friday recreational program- leading games, building connections and having fun!
SCHEDULE:
- Weekly hours Thursdays from 5:45-7:10 at the Ehlinger Center.
- Monthly hours the first Friday of each month 5:15-8:15 at our 8th Street location.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent general education degree, required.
- Previous experience working with individuals with cognitive and physical disabilities, preferred.
- Knowledge of specified program content and ability to effectively give instruction to others and make modifications based on abilities of each participant.
- Willingness to attend meetings, training, and obtain additional certification as requested.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading classes, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting. Individuals in this job may be subject to loud facilities and elements of weather.
