Special Education- NEST Program Teacher
JOB GOAL
The Nurturing, Emotional Support and Transition (NEST) Program is for early primary students with disabilities that would benefit from a smaller, more therapeutic setting in order to transition effectively into the general education setting. Students are struggling with social-emotional and adaptive behaviors that impede their progress. The goal of this position is a teacher that will set up a therapeutic environment and move students toward social-emotional regulation and ultimately back into the general education setting.
QUALIFICATIONS
Holds a valid Tennessee license with appropriate Exceptional Education endorsement; Experience with EdPlan and other special education platforms; Meets health and physical requirements.

SCHEDULE 200 Day
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure a safe and optimal learning environment for the students
- Provide routine and structure utilizing visual schedules, timers, minimized transitions, etc.
- Use evidence-based practices for managing student behaviors that align applied behavior analysis
- Teach social-emotional skills necessary for student participation in general education and in the community.
- Maximize learning using grade-level instruction with modifications and accommodations as needed
- Provide academic intervention as needed to close gaps
- Write instructionally appropriate and compliant IEPs
- Effectively facilitate IEP meetings
- Maintain active certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
- Effectively assign Educational Assistant duties and responsibilities
- Administers diagnostic tests and evaluates student progress on a regular basis;
- Keeps attendance and grade records as required by the board of education;
- Reports to the principal any reasonable suspicion that a student's health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed as a result of abuse or neglect;
- Represents the school and the community in a positive manner;
- Complies with board policies, school rules, and administrative regulations;
- Meets assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated;
- Attends work regularly and on time;
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job may require lifting or carrying of objects that exceed fifty (50) pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows: pushing and/or pulling, stooping and/or kneeling, reaching and/or handling, talking, hearing, seeing, and climbing.
