Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing semi-skilled and skilled technical work related to the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and systems.
Essential Functions
- Operation and maintenance of sludge pumps, blowers, meters, filters, heat exchanger, gas collection system, liner system, boiler, chemical metering pumps, valves, and various pieces of equipment and control devices
- Performing preventative maintenance inspections (service and repairs), sample collection tasks, analytical laboratory work, chemical usage tracking and recordkeeping
- Recording statistical data concerning plant operations; maintaining, operating, repairing, and replacing monitoring equipment as necessary
- Performing physical activities requiring occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 80 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders, working from a boat, operating a forklift, and wearing personal protective equipment (including a respirator)
- Monitoring the performance of the treatment system via specialized equipment, meters, gauges, charts, computers, and data loggers
- Calibrating, servicing, and/or repairing equipment such as flow meters and recorders, pH meters, dissolved oxygen meters, and/or other basic monitoring equipment

Qualifications
- Minimum high school graduation; college-level coursework in biology, chemistry, hydraulics, mechanics, etc., is desired.
- A minimum of 1-2 years' experience with water/wastewater-related equipment, i.e., pumps, valves, blowers, mechanics, control systems, etc.
- A strong desire to learn the wastewater treatment field is required.
- Ability to operate (or learn to operate) necessary equipment.
- Excellent record required in safety, attendance, and punctuality.
- Ability to stand and walk the entire shift if needed.
- Ability to read and write instructions in English.
- Knowledge of the proper use of all cleaning chemicals.
- Must be able to work weekends and overtime as required.
