We are seeking a highly motivated, flexible, and experienced scientist with demonstrated expertise in reagent generation and characterization. This individual will support for generation and characterization of critical reagents in a timely manner for development, validation, and execution of bioanalytical, immunogenicity and biomarker assays to support clinical development. The successful candidate will work closely with bioanalytical, immunogenicity and biomarker assay groups and cross-functional teams in GSK to identify, generate, select, and qualify critical reagents, as well as their monitoring, tracking, and storage. The role is based in our R&D hub at Upper Providence US.

In this role you will

  • Participate in laboratory activities and provide scientific expertise to prepare and analyze critical protein reagents in support of the bioanalytical laboratory.
  • Conduct day-to-day experimental reviews of the reagent preparations, develop the team's strategy for reagent quality control in a regulated environment, and prioritize laboratory work in order to meet the needs of the bioanalytical programs.
  • Serve as a critical point of contact between internal and external teams to assure that reagent needs are being met on behalf of the group.
  • Work under limited supervision with a high level of autonomy, analyze complex issues and significantly improve, change or adapt existing methods and techniques (e.g. AKTA, HPLC, Octet/SPR, LC-MS) to improve reagent preparation function.
  • Use emerging developments in relevant scientific fields to generate new research ideas and initiatives to support different therapeutic modalities such as multi-specific mAbs, ADC, nucleic acid-based therapeutics, advocates the use and need for new technology to support long-term research plans.
  • Work closely with assay scientists within GSK to source reagents for bioanalytical and biomarker assays; assist assay trouble shooting through reagent characterization.
  • Support accurate and compliant record keeping and experimental data integrity with the use of the electronic lab notebook and standard databases.

Why you?

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in life sciences preferred. Candidates with an M.S. and a minimum of 5 years or a B.S. with at least 10 years of relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with the protein purification and modification.
  • Experience with commonly used protein conjugation method such as NHS ester conjugation and thiol conjugation.
  • Experience with the Biophysical Characterization of Biologics, such as SPR/Octet, AKTA, analytical HPLC, and LC/MS.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience with monoclonal and polyclonal antibody purification and conjugation.
  • Knowledge in developing methods to support validation of biopharmaceutical PK, biomarker and/or immunogenicity assays.
  • Experience with bioanalytical assays such as MSD or ELISA.
  • Strong knowledge of critical reagent sourcing, screening, qualification, and management principles, as well as current industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills - will need to interface between many functional areas to achieve shared goals.
  • Excellent attention to details, excellent organizational skills, and proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
