The Intracellular Targeted Cancer Therapeutics (ITCT) team in GSK's Oncology Research Unit is seeking a talented, creative, and motivated scientist with a strong background in molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry.
This lab-based role will support early target discovery, validation and screening efforts for novel oncology programs. You will work within a cross-functional team of chemists, cellular biologists and proteomic/transcriptomic scientists, utilizing a wide array of molecular biology, biochemical, and cellular assays to identify and validate targets for novel drug modalities such as molecular glues, small molecule RNA therapeutics, and novel ADC warheads.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with various biochemical, molecular and cellular assays, exposure to chemical biology approaches, expertise in assay development, and a strong background in cancer biology and novel oncology targets.
Responsibilities:
Design, execute, and troubleshoot molecular, cellular, genetic and biochemical assays for 'support of' or 'discovery of' novel oncology targets and drug modalities
Perform mechanistic studies as part of target validation and hit validation efforts
Generate data in a timely manner and maintain detailed experimental records
Regularly and effectively communicate findings at project team and company meetings
Collaborate cross-functionally with biology, biochemistry, chemistry and structural biology colleagues at GSK
Independently identify novel drug modality and new target opportunities
Work with HTS team to conduct, analyze and follow up on biochemical and cellular screens
Manage projects at external CROs
Basic Qualifications:
PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, or related life sciences field, or non-PhD with 10 years of experience in drug discovery within the pharmaceutical industry
Experience with standard cellular, molecular or biochemistry assays or experiments
Experience designing and executing lab experiments
Preferred Qualifications:
Solid background in cancer biology and cancer-relevant pathways (both tumor-cell intrinsic and extrinsic), novel oncology targets
Experience in the field of chemical biology and the use of small molecule agents to address complex biological questions
Experience culturing, manipulating and characterizing mammalian cells: cell culture, viral transduction, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, viability and mechanistic assays
Experience investigating protein:protein interactions
Hands-on experience with cellular and phenotypic screens (genetic or pharmacological), hit finding and validation
Knowledge of molecular glues, small molecule RNA therapeutics or other non-traditional drug modalities
Experience with large-scale data interpretation and visualization
Strong problem-solving skills with sound technically driven decision-making ability
Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
A creative team player with capacity to be effective in a dynamic company environment
This role is located in Upper Providence, PA or Cambridge Technology Square, MA.
