What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corrections Pharmacy Technician position at GLC Group?
GLC Government Services is seeking Pharmacy Techs to work a Full Time Government Contract.
Location: Coleman FL
Setting: FCI Coleman Correctional Facility
Contract: Ongoing Contract
Schedule: Monday - Friday, between the hours of 6:30 am to 3 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Weekly hours will not exceed 30 per week.
Requirements:
- Must be licensed as Pharmacy Technician with a medical/technical background obtained through education or on the job training in the pharmaceutical field.
- Must at least eighteen (18) years old.
- Must a high school graduate or equivalent.
Scope of Work:
- Reading and interpreting prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff; selecting and retrieval of medications of correct strength and dosage from prescribed; transcribing prescription data to labels using typewriters or via computer system; preparing prescriptions for review by a pharmacist or physician prior to dispensing; and giving pertinent patient instructions when appropriate.
- Contractors will not fill, issue and/or deal in any way with DEA controlled substances but may be responsible for the running of pill lines upon proper orientation by Chief Pharmacist.
- Administering single doses of medications to patients with the approval of the Chief Pharmacist. Assisting the Pharmacist in ensuring that only medication listed in the approved Bureau of Prisons Formulary are dispensed and ensure that requests for Non-Formulary Medications are initiated and submitted to the BOP Chief Pharmacist for approval.
- Preparing the proper paperwork and forms for replenishment of inventory, as well as maintaining an expiration date log to ensure accountability.
- Assisting with picking up orders from the front lobby.
- Assisting in updating patient education literature.
- Assisting in the improvement of performance studies and also assisting the Pharmacist in meeting policy guidelines for the inmates.
- Preparing recommended supply lists to order pharmaceuticals; maintaining the pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion; maintaining stock of appropriate forms utilized in the pharmacy department; and, in the absence of the Pharmacist, maintaining the Pharmacy Operation, but they must have the Medical Officer review all prescriptions filled prior to dispensing to the inmate population. This includes inmate pill distribution of pill lines as needed inside the Complex Institution Facilities.
- Knowledge gained through one or more of the following: a medication administration training program, medication administration or certified pharmacy technician program. Evidence of program completion is required.
