This includes New Product Development across engineering disciplines as well as indirect projects such as cost downs, product improvements and special programs. The Engineering Technician II for Gleason Engineering and Application Research Center is responsible for all activities within the GEAR Center and projects it supports. This includes New Product Development across engineering disciplines as well as indirect projects such as cost downs, product improvements and special programs. They will have increased technical skills and additional responsibilities to facilitate timely completion of projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Build prototype / beta machines and sub-assemblies (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, lubrication), working to Engineering prints, schematics, and 3D models.
- Accurately record inspection criteria, build documentation, and time spent on projects.
- Collaborate with the documentation team to develop assembly work instructions and runoff checklists.
- Perform prescribed testing and qualification of the equipment including mechanical, hydraulic, lubrication, pneumatic, and electrical systems as well as all cycles, safety requirements and special customer requirements.
- Communicate with Engineering and other internal groups to resolve issues and improve designs.
- Identify and document problems utilizing Gleason’s ITL process and suggest solutions.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area, in compliance with established departmental standards.
- Disassemble equipment outlined above, when necessary to troubleshoot or repair.
- Interface with internal and external suppliers and customers.
- Work independently on new equipment and designs.
- Actively participate in a positive manner on technical / design reviews, scheduling, and machine readiness evaluation.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to mitigate issues.
- Comprehend and effectively communicate verbally and in writing to specific audiences while using good judgement regarding appropriateness of communications.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment, interact in a positive manner with customers and co-workers.
- Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and deliver results.
- Willing to learn new skills, including all of Gleason’s Core Methods, detailing ballscrew assemblies, linear rails, encoders, proper hardware usage, stoning and cleaning parts, and gage setup.
- Setup and interpret measurement equipment (i.e. dial/electronic indicators and gages).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of assembly methods.
- Mechanical component and assembly print reading.
- Computer usage (Microsoft Office, SAP, UKG time reporting).
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, with a technical degree or four years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Vocational training for hands on assembly or repair.
- Ability to read and wire to electrical schematics.
- Ability to perform machine startup desired (i.e. high-tech power up, I/O checks, machine tool operation).
- Prior Gleason machine experience (CNC machine operation, gear process, assembly, or metrology) is preferred.
