What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nursing Department Manager - Med Surg position at Glen Rose Medical Center?
POSITION SUMMARY-The Medical Surgical (Med Surg) Manager plans, directs, supervises, and evaluates the Med Surg department services on a 24-hour basis consistent with evidence-based, acceptable, and appropriate standards of care. The Med Surg Manager works collaboratively with staff, other departments, and physicians to ensure safe, quality care. The manager shall abide by the GRMC standards of behavior as a member of the leadership team and will lead the Med Surg team in efforts to positively impact the patient experience and other performance improvement activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs the delivery of nursing care in the department while facilitating integration of services into the primary functions of the organization.
· Supports the coordination and integration of interdepartmental and intradepartmental care and services provided to patients.
· Leads departmental activities to achieve positive customer service and the overall patient experience in the emergency department.
· Works collaboratively with and supports the Hospitalist physicians in all aspects of evidence-based treatment plans and evaluation and resolution of patient care issues; bridges the relationship between the hospital’s senior leadership team and the physician team.
· Supervises all department staff by interviewing, selecting, training, assigning job responsibilities, and evaluating competency and performance to ensure that the department meets its annual goals and objectives. Oversite of department scheduling, reducing overtime and coverage for call outs.
· Participates in the regular review of the plans for the provision of nursing care, Medicla Surgical Nursing Standards of Care, and review of the nursing division policies and procedures related to Med Surg activities.
· Coordinates Med Surg quality assessment and performance improvement activities through on-going monitoring and evaluation, ensuring staff participation in the process, and utilization of identified outcomes measures to identify opportunities for improvement in services rendered.
· Assures departmental compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements and ensures a state of survey preparedness in the Med Surg department.
· Ensures that all department staff have received orientation and seeks out and/or coordinates continuing education opportunities relative to their specific job responsibilities, growth, and development.
· Develops, monitors, and reviews the department’s operating, productivity, and capital budget assuring cost effectiveness of expenditures.
· Assures competent, adequate daily staffing to provide quality, safe patient care.
· Administers all records, reports, statistics, files, and other documents as required.
· Other duties as assigned.
Regulatory
· Monitor Med Surg related regulatory issues and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
· Educate staff on regulatory issues and requirements.
· Prepare for and participate in accreditation or certification surveys involving the med surg department.
Education
· Must have a license to practice professional nursing from the Texas Board of Nursing or licensure from a state within the Nursing Compact.
· BSN preferred, may consider qualified candidate willing to acquire BSN within 3 years.
· ACLS, PALS and/or ENPC certification required.
· Three (3) years progressively responsible supervisory experience.
