Job Summary:
Under the immediate supervision of the Facility and Beach Manager, the Beach Cart Driver position is responsible for performing various duties, preparing the beach for the customers' demands, and assisting with the daily Beach operations. The Beach Cart Driver position duties include:
- Driving patrons in the Park District golf cart.
- Assisting in collecting daily admissions.
- Enforcing all Lakefront rules.
- Supporting other Beach staff in their work.
- Assisting in maintaining Beach cleanliness.
- Setting up or taking down Beach equipment, including cashier carts.
This is a part-time summer position from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend (pre-season training in mid-May).
The Beach Cart Driver position is responsible for performing the duties as outlined below. They work in groups of at least 1 to a maximum of 6 Beach Staff. This part-time position typically requires 15-30 hours a week.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- One year of experience in a demanding customer service environment is preferred.
- The ability to enforce Lakefront rules positively is required.
- Must be available and attend required trainings in May.
- Must possess a Valid Illinois Driver's License and have a good driving record.
- Must pass the Glencoe Park District Vehicle training.
- All part-time employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District covers.
Required Knowledge:
Knowledge of the philosophy of public recreation and the ability to communicate this to others is required, as well as a proven technical understanding of the position's content.
Required Skills:
Must safely operate a golf cart and proficiently use a laptop computer. Basic math skills are required, along with an outgoing personality and a strong willingness to engage positively with customers.
Dependability, flexibility, good safety awareness, and sound judgment are essential. The candidate should also be able to understand and follow rules and instructions and possess strong reading, writing, and organizational skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attending to the daily housekeeping needs of the beach and overall daily maintenance of the beach house.
- Responsible for assisting cashiers in the collection of revenue.
- Responsible for enforcing rules at the point of entrance and throughout the facility.
- Providing exceptional customer service to all patrons at the beach.
- Work with other beach staff to assist in an emergency.
- Learn about processes and answer frequently asked questions about the beach, facility, lake, and equipment rentals.
- Proficiently know all Lakefront rules and be able to enforce them positively.
- Follow, administer, and implement Glencoe Park District policies and guidelines.
- Know what authorized vehicles can and cannot park and/or use specific ramps during beach hours.
- Show good safety awareness and judgment; report all suspicious activity at the beach and/or surrounding areas.
- Wear issued uniform at all times when on duty.
- Be aware of the responsibilities involved when searching for a missing person.
- Prevent fires from being started at Lakefront Park by directing patrons to the designated area of the beach.
- Participate in "community activities" such as the 4th of July.
- Work closely with co-workers and the public under the direction of supervisors.
- Responsible for the safety of the general public.
Pay Scale:
This is a seasonal part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $15 per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $15 per hour to $20 per hour.
Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the Assistant Director of Recreation and Facilities, or the Deputy Director/Director of Recreation and Facilities.
