What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ceramics Instructor Substitute & Studio Assistant (Part-Time) position at Glencoe Park District?
Under the supervision of the Program Manager of Camps, Art, and Youth, the Ceramics Instructor Substitute & Studio Assistant is responsible for leading and teaching assigned ceramics classes to program participants, as well as responsible for cleaning, organizing, and assisting in the daily upkeep and maintenance of the Ceramics Studio.
This is an hourly position, and hours will vary depending on scheduled classes. We are currently looking for a substitute instructor who can teach some adult morning classes, as well as occasional after-school youth and teen classes, as well as evening adult classes. Compensation will be established on evaluation, experience, and recommendation of the Program Manager of Camps, Art, and Youth.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience teaching ceramics classes to children and/or adults is required.
- Ability to work effectively with the public and fellow employees.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification within the first 6 months of hire.
- Must present oneself in a professional manner.
- All employees must pass a criminal background check, which will be covered by the Glencoe Park District.
Required Knowledge:
Good understanding and working knowledgeable of ceramic art as well as other art forms and their use, demonstrate an understanding of various clay bodies and glazes, and demonstrate/teach the necessary skills/techniques needed for class. Must have knowledge in operating kilns and knowledge of Park District activities and operations.

Strong ability to communicate in a professional and friendly manner, with employees and customers in person, via email, and by telephone. Ability to assess and solve problems as they arise; and able to perform tasks self-directed. Demonstrate good professional judgement, initiative, flexibility, and creativity. Ability to act as a positive representative of the Glencoe Park District and always support the Glencoe Park District Mission.
