What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kids Club Counselor - 2024-25 School Year (Part-Time) position at Glencoe Park District?
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager of Program Manager of Art, Camps, and Youth, the Kids Club counselor is responsible for the safety, supervision, and enjoyment of the Glencoe Park District Kids Club Participants. Kids Club Counselors are responsible for coordinating and supervising the Before and After School Program in a manner that contributes to the individual growth and development of program participants.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years old or older.
- Previous experiences working with children or in recreation programming.
- Must be available to work from 2:45-6:30 PM and able to assist with School Day Off programming.
- Must have First Aid/CPR/ AED certification or be willing to obtain it within one month of hire.
- All employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District will cover.
Required Knowledge:
A knowledge of the philosophy of public recreation and the ability to communicate this to others is required. Must have a proven technical knowledge of the content of the position. Must provide age-appropriate interactions and activities for children in grades K-6.
Required Skills:
Must maintain prompt hours; notify the Program Manager in the event of illness at least 3 hours before the start of the program if possible. Must maintain a neat and clean appearance, work with all staff members cooperatively, attend staff meetings when scheduled, and report problems of child or program management problems to the Program Manager. Must follow personnel policies and safety policies of the Glencoe Park District.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in providing and delivering an ongoing plan of daily activities for the program that include but are not limited to passive play, homework time, free play, and structured organized group games.
- Maintain a physical environment that is safe, clean, and conducive to the optimal growth and development of the children in the program.
- Establish and maintain a good relationship between Glencoe School District 35 and the Glencoe Park District.
- To be supportive of parents, encouraging involvement and open and honest communication while using tact, discretion, and sensitivity
- Promote and supervise activities that promote each child's healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development.
- Provide and maintain a neat and organized program area; take responsibility for the upkeep of all equipment and materials.
- Closely supervise all activities to ensure the safety of each child at all times.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of after-school snacks.
- Assist the children in self-care routines.
- Work extra hours as necessary.
- Must receive prior authorization from the Program Manager to take time off, except in the event of illness.
- Must receive prior authorization from the Program Manager to secure a substitute, except in the event of an illness.
Hours:
Due to the nature of park district programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours may be expected.
Pay Scale:
This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $16per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $16 per hour to $20per hour.
Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the Program Manager of Art, Camps, and Youth, or the Deputy Director/Director of Recreation and Facilities
