This is a full-time, tenure track, 10 month-per-year position, which includes both a classroom teaching assignment in the Division of Kinesiology, and a 45% head coaching assignment in Track and Cross-Country. 

The teaching assignment consists of Kinesiology, health and physical education courses, including, but not limited to, sports activity, fitness, PE theory, and various health education classes. The current teaching load is 15-19 instructional hours per week. 

The 45% head coaching assignment in Track and Cross-Country responsibilities include matriculation, recruitment, retention and motivation of student athletes to achieve academic success, organization of schedules and practices, oversight of the Track and Cross-Country program, oversight of equipment, supplies, and budget expenditures, coordination of transportation for away meets, direction of conditioning program, and recruitment, training and supervision of assistant coaches. 

Members of the full-time faculty will hold five office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development, and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and hybrid format, evening and/or weekend classes. 

Start Date: Fall 2025


Teach assigned courses in the Kinesiology Division, including Health Education, First Aid and CPR, and various physical education activity classes.

Instruct in a manner that meets individual student needs, motivates students, and maximizes learning, taking into account diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the community college student. 

Participate in the development and updating of Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) for classes within the Kinesiology Division. 

Promote lifelong physical activity and wellness. 

Organize, recruit, and coach community college athletes within the framework of the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Constitution and Bylaws. 


Set up training stations for sport specific activities in class and/or competition.

Ensure compliance with all regulations, rules, procedures, and policies for an intercollegiate athletic program as established by the 3C2A and Glendale Community College. 

Establish positive working relationships with student athletes, college staff, community, and support organizations. 

Uphold and maintain applicable district and 3C2A standards of professional conduct and ethics. 

Assist in preparation and maintenance of team athletic budget. 

Lead role in equipment purchasing for sport and sport classes related to job.

Attend and participate in Western State Conference, California Community College Track and Cross-Country Coaches Association and CCCAA meetings, and organizational events. 

Direct public relations and fundraising activities in support of the Track and Cross-Country Program and the athletic program. 

Establish relationships with high school coaches, media, and equipment and supply vendors. 

Assist in the matriculation process of student athletes.


Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.


Maintain regular posted office hours and be accessible to students.


Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.


Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum, policies, and procedures for the program.


Participate in campus governance and professional activities (e.g. committees, scheduling, leadership positions, faculty meetings, etc.)


Participate in staff development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives. 


Work to achieve the college's Institutional, Program, and Student Learning Outcomes in support of Glendale Community College's Mission Statement.


Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work. 

Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. 


Performs other instructional/coaching-related duties as assigned.

Master’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education   OR bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND master’s

degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy  OR the equivalent

 

Desirable Qualifications:


Teaching experience in kinesiology, physical education, and health education. 

Experience as a head coach or four years of assistant coaching experience in higher education. 

Knowledge of and experience enforcing compliance with NCAA, 3C2A, state and other applicable regulations. 

Possess a class C California Driver License with provision to drive a 12-seat passenger van.

Experience in fundraising. 

Instructor-level First Aid and CPR certification from the American Red Cross. 

Experience using a learning management system (LMS).

Experience in curriculum development.

Knowledge about or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.

Teaching experience that reflects innovative pedagogy, including active learning and culturally responsive teaching practices.


Experience with the development and teaching of distance education classes.



Salary, Health and Welfare Benefits

Starting salary is from $70,667 to $97,83per year depending upon education and experience. Step placement within the appropriate column is determined by Article VIII of the Glendale College Guild, Local 2276, Collective Bargaining Agreement. Additionally, information regarding health and welfare benefits may be found in Article XI.
