SENIOR INFORMATION ANALYST
DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Director, Educational Technology and Information Services and/or the Coordinator of Assessment and Accountability; the Senior Information Analyst performs a variety of tasks related to the design, development and delivery of custom reports, applications and dashboards that improve the effectiveness and relevance of data analytics; assists with application system selection, implementation, and data integration with current district systems; plans, designs, develops and maintains databases and database applications.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN CLASSES
A?Senior Information Analyst?is responsible for creating new database systems. They are responsible for the integration of third-party applications/systems with current district information systems. They are also responsible for the development of dashboards and tools that improve the effectiveness of the district’s data driven decision making.
An?Information Analyst?is responsible for managing existing database systems and generating custom reports within those systems such as the student information system. They are also responsible for the database's integrity; creating and maintaining database user accounts; submitting required reports to the state; and supporting users with questions regarding the student information system.
A?Supervisor, Educational Technology and Information Services?supervises an information systems unit and participates in the work of the unit.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Develop, coordinate and monitor district databases and database applications, including but not limited to: Student Information, Nutrition Services, and Library Systems.
Deploy web servers as it pertains to the Student Information System or other systems as necessary.
Perform duties as the data integration specialist; assess needs for newly proposed applications and educational tools and convert those needs to technical specifications and requirements.
Act as a liaison between the district and application vendors to ensure the technical needs and interests of the district are met.
Build complex reports and interactive data visualizations that query information across multiple databases.
Plan and develop data dashboards that monitor district’s progress in meeting LCAP goals and other targets as required; create and manage dashboards in Q District Pulse and Microsoft Power BI.
Assist in the planning and analysis of data points to include on custom reports and dashboard.
Compose technical and non-technical materials as well as provide training on the effective use of dashboards/tools.
Perform related duties as assigned.
CLASS QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Student information systems.
Structured Query Language (SQL), usage and maintenance of relational databases.
Data architecture and integration.
Database creation, deployment, backup, recovery and performance tuning.
Basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios.
Ability to:
Schedule activities and/or meetings.
Routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data.
Be flexible to work independently or with others in a wide variety of circumstances.
Work with data utilizing specific, defined processes.
Work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Minimum Requirements:
Two years of recent experience in the usage of various databases, including Structured Query Language (SQL), and creation of custom reports.
Desirable Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in related field is highly desirable.
Experience with Q Student Information System is highly desirable.
Certificates and/or completed courses in job-related field are desirable.
Written and oral proficiency in a second language.

Employees in this classification must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of the position without hazard to themselves or others. These include but are not limited to:
Sitting, standing, walking for extended periods of time; kneeling, crouching, bending at the waist, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, above the shoulders to retrieve and store files and supplies.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; use of wrists or hands repetitively, in a twisting motion or while applying pressure; use of both hands simultaneously.
Lifting and carrying, pushing and pulling boxes, files, equipment and other office supplies weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Body movement or mobility to visit job sites or to observe work at any location in the district.
Driving vehicle between work sites to conduct work.
Seeing well enough to read a variety of documents including fine print, e.g., manuals and instructions.
Hearing and speaking well enough to exchange information using a telephone and in person including communicating with large groups of people.
Work Environment:
Employees in this classification work primarily indoors, in an office environment, in direct contact with the public and other district staff with continuous interruptions and changing priorities.
Occasional visits to other locations and district sites are required.
