Position Summary

The Director of Institutional Advancement reports to the Head of School and is responsible for strategic planning and implementation of programs specifically geared to increase constituent engagement, build relationships with existing and new potential donors, and manage fundraising efforts. This position leads the initiatives to raise funds for the school including annual campaigns, events, and marketing for all events.

Essential Functions

  • Lead all aspects of fundraising initiatives, including annual giving, planned giving, major gifts, capital campaigns, and special events.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with current and prospective donors.
  • Formulate and execute a comprehensive plan with the Head of School and Board of Trustees to define fundraising priorities and to achieve and plan for financial goals.
  • Serve as a key leader for Glenelg Country School, building relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • Oversee strategic Advancement marketing campaigns and digital engagement to reach prospective donors and families.
  • Collaborate with the Parents & Friends Association to create programming, events, and communications.
  • Oversee the development and marketing staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience Needs

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Experience in an independent educational setting is desired.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a leader in all areas of advancement.
  • Ability to assess advancement issues in the big picture, anticipating opportunities and challenges.
  • Prefer ten years of experience or more.
  • Excellent communication skills (including interpersonal, verbal and written).
  • Skills with attention to detail, organization, planning, and meeting deadlines are highly necessary.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing a team.
  • Must have solid judgment, discretion, and sensitivity working with donors and families.
  • Prior experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge is helpful.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak, listen, and direct others. The employee is required to stand, walk, type, and use a computer and routine computer programs to complete a variety of job duties. Position works evenings and weekends as needed.

Compensation Range: $130,000 – $180,000. This position provides full benefits including health insurances, retirement and leave.
