Job Title: Resource Tech

Location: Glenn Medical Center, Willows, CA


Job Summary
The Resource Tech is responsible for a range of critical functions ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the facility overnight, including but not limited to environmental service duties, boiler attendance duties, minor maintenance tasks, security, and limited local patient transportation. The ideal candidate has a strong sense of situational awareness, empathy towards others, ability to follow technical directions, and willingness to work constructively as a team.


It’s expected that in this role the employee manages their workload constructively to address the most immediate needs of the facility in priority of air ambulance and ER requests, hourly boiler checks, security rounding and intervention, and then all other EVS activities as time allows. The expected time allotments per shift are as follows:


Environmental Services: 50%

Boiler Attendant: 25%

Security: 25%


Environmental Services Duties

Performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways, clinics, surgery rooms, and other assigned buildings/areas of the hospital. Cleans apartments and clinics off hospital premises.

1. Clinical Department EVS Duties:

o Thoroughly cleans Nursing Stations (100 and 200 wings), ER, all rooms, outpatient clinical areas, rural health clinic exam rooms.

o Cleans vents, walls, lights and all equipment in ER, procedure room lights and fixtures free of dust. Cleans lights and windows. Remakes ER and procedure beds.

o Cleans bathroom and showers, wiping down all fixtures, pipes, shelves, and sink. Cleans toilet bowl with germicidal solution and toilet brush. Damp mops floors. Replenishes all paper goods.

o Cleans cubical curtains, windows, beds, wall, ceiling, woodwork, trim, floor, sink, counter, pipes, furniture, and fixtures. Wipes down furniture and door frames with a damp cloth.

o Ensures blood is cleaned from all surfaces using the proper chemicals.

o Replaces all paper goods, lining, and light vents.

o Empties trash to trash cart, then takes out to trash bins.

o Empties sharps containers when 2/3 full.

o Empties wastebasket, wipes with germicidal solution, replaces liner.

o Wipes down mattress on both sides with a damp cloth.

o Makes bed with clean linen.

o Put all clean linen away properly, take out dirty linen as needed.

o Maintains a clean, sanitary, orderly building.


2. Business Office EVS Duties:

o Dusts; mops or vacuums floor; washes windows, window sills, sinks, bathroom, fixtures, phones, chairs, T.V. and water fountains. Replaces paper goods. Waxes floors as needed. Dumps trash and hoppers.

o Cleans treatment rooms, Purchasing, Pharmacy, Respiratory Care, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Laboratory, Central Supply, Emergency Room, hallways, bathrooms, administration and business offices.

o Spot cleans walls and doors as needed.

o Clean floors, vacuum or sweep, buff floors as needed.

o Cleans both ER and hospitalist sleep rooms, supplies fresh linen, disinfects. When provider leaves, makes bed with fresh linen and cleans room.

o Picks up trash around grounds, provides some leaf blowing and care for front entry points in front lobby, ER and 100 wing patient entrances

o Night shift locks all doors except E.R. entrance at 8:00 p.m. Locks E.R. entrance at 11:00 p.m.


Boiler Attendant Duties

The Boiler Attendant is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and supervision of all boilers at Glenn Medical Center. This position ensures compliance with California safety regulations (§781) regarding boiler operations, including active monitoring and adherence to all safety protocols.

1. Supervision and Maintenance:

    • Maintain direct supervision over all hospital boilers, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently.
    • Perform regular maintenance on boilers and associated equipment to prevent malfunctions or hazards.
  • Monitoring and Operation:
    • Continually monitor boiler water levels to ensure they remain within safe operating limits.
    • Personally check the water level and operational status of each boiler at least every 60 minutes.
    • Ensure audible alarms are functioning and respond immediately to alarm notifications to maintain water levels and prevent carryover.
  • Safety Device Management:
    • Operate and verify the functionality of safety devices, including low-water shutoff mechanisms, alarms for high and low water levels, and automatic shutdowns.
    • Reset safety devices manually as needed and maintain these devices in excellent working condition.
  • Regular Testing and Inspections:
    • At the beginning of each shift, test and confirm the operation of all automatic and manual controls.
    • Dismantle and inspect all float chambers of automatic controls annually.
    • Maintain detailed records of all inspections, maintenance, and repairs for review by certified inspectors.
  • Compliance and Training:
    • Understand and comply with Glenn Medical Center’s boiler safety policies and California labor code requirements.
    • Stay current with safety regulations and undergo periodic training to ensure proficiency in boiler operation, emergency response, and shutdown procedures.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Keep thorough documentation of all maintenance and inspections, available for certified inspectors during annual evaluations.

Building Security Duties:

As part of the off-hours team, assist with situational awareness of building security and safety.

1. Maintains situational awareness of building grounds and reports suspicious activity to administration.

2. Provides direct 1:1 patient monitoring when required in the ER for 5150 patients.

3. Assists with de-escalation activities involving patients and/or visitors.

4. Secures helicopter landing zone during air ambulance service.

5. Provide local patient transport for after-hours ER discharges home.

6. Monitors entryway security during regular rounds and assists with access control during lockdown events, patient and visitor screening when necessary.

7. Address after-hours utility issues, including but not limited to emergency plumbing issues, generator oversight, medical gas tank management, door and window repairs, emergency shut off of critical systems, and communication to administration during events.

9. Returns telephone voice mail and messages appropriately.

10. Maintains the confidentiality of patient and facility records and information.

11. Does not abuse or take advantage of sick time or personal days off. Provides proper notification for absence or tardiness.

12. Makes best use of time during assigned shift. Coordinates activities to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift. Attends to personal affairs on own time to avoid disrupting the work schedule.

13. Performs duties in an independent manner with minimum supervision.

14. Adjusts personal schedule to complete workload when requested.

15. Reports to work as scheduled; is consistently ready to work at start of the assigned shift. Reports off duty as scheduled; does not abuse overtime policy.

16. Completes time sheet accurately and on a daily basis.

17. Utilizes company supplies efficiently.

18. Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner at all times.

19. Observes the Hospital/department dress code and wears ID badge.

20. Attends all required education/inservice meetings.

21. Complies with hospital safety and disaster policy and procedures.

22. Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to hospital and departmental safety regulations, disaster plans, infection control policies, and fire safety regulations, hazardous materials protocol.

23. Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of National Patient Safety goals and follows GMC’s patient safety policies and procedures while providing patient care.

24. Always utilizes Standard Precautions for infection control.

25. Identifies and reports unsafe practice and/or procedures as related to patient care.

26. Identifies and reports unsafe conditions noted hospital wide that could contribute to potential falls or injuries by staff, patients, or visitors.

27. Responds to and uses disaster codes appropriately.

28. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care and/or services appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.

29. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications:

  • Clean driving record, no commercial license required.
  • Current BLS or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Previous experience with boiler maintenance and safe operations in an industrial or healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, coworkers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations, with a nonjudgmental and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Successfully complete EVS department orientation, boiler attendant training, patient monitor training, de-escalation training, and driver orientation within 30 days of hire.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to hear audible alarms from any location required during duty shifts.
  • Physical ability to perform frequent checks and necessary manual adjustments to boilers and related equipment.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods and lift or move patients as needed.
  • Must be able to follow and complete technical requirements per regulations.
