Job Summary:
Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. seeks a Quality Control Technician to ensure the quality of hot mix asphalt operations. This position will work under direct and indirect supervision.
Essential Functions:
- Obtain representative samples and perform specific tests on materials used in HMA production, recording results in state and company documents.
- Assist in developing and adhering to the facility's Quality Control Plan.
- Discuss test results and production processes with Plant Leader and Operator, as needed.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly test reports for review by GOH officials.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable test procedures and material specifications.
- Prepare certifications for materials shipped, maintain copies, and reject non-specification materials.
- Adjust mix formulas to target design values as needed.
- Develop needed HMA designs.
- Perform equipment maintenance and occasionally operate a vehicle on company business.
Knowledge:
- Basic Mathematics.
- Principles, practices, and techniques of testing hot mix asphalt and aggregates.
- PennDOT Publications: Publication 19, Pennsylvania Test Methods; Publication 408, Specifications; Section 106, Control of Material; Section 703, Aggregate; and related sections.
Ability:
- Learn other test procedures, such as fine and coarse aggregate absorptions and specific gravities, mix design development, and submittal procedures.
- Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
- Teach others to perform these duties.
- Work alone or with others in a team.
- Maintain neat, legible, and accurate documentation.
- Proficiently use Microsoft Office software products.
- Attend and pass PennDOT's Superpave Volumetric Mix Design Workshop course within three years as a Bituminous Plant Level 1 Technician.
- Learn and follow GOH Company policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Must obtain a current Pennsylvania Bituminous Plant Level 1 Technician Certification.
- Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record per company minimum standards for drivers.
Education:
Minimum of a High school Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year as a recognized Bituminous Plant Technician in Training, or related field preferred.
- Similar credentials from another state.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 50 pounds from ground level to work-bench height.
- Perform physical labor in varying weather and terrain, tolerating limited exposure to heat and dust.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
- Climb stairs and ladders.
- Shovel.
- Sit or stand for extended periods.
