Description
Glenville State University is seeking a highly qualified and self-motivated individual to assist students in the financial aid application process and assist the Financial Aid Office in maintaining student records for the evaluation and disbursement of financial aid.
This Financial Aid Assistant II will report to the Director of Financial Aid. This position will be able to effectively communicate the goals and objectives of the Financial Aid Office.
Examples of Duties
This position will be responsible for :
- Answering in-person, phone, and email inquiries from current and prospective students.
Counseling students and families regarding basic financial aid application procedures, student income verification requirements, and special circumstances of student's financial aid status.
Assisting with the reconciliation of various financial aid programs, including outside scholarships and athletic aid.
Meeting with the Athletic Department approximately one to two times per week regarding athletic scholarship procedures.
Entering outside scholarships, AmeriCorps funding, VA funding, athletic aid, and other types of aid and other information / data into the Banner system.
Screening more complex inquiries to appropriate offices.
Assisting the Financial Aid Office in various efforts to support the recruitment and retention goals of the college.
Supervising of student workers.
Keeping social media platforms up to date with financial aid information, deadlines, events, etc.
Processing of DC TAG and CAP funding.
Participating in Financial Aid trainings that will support the execution of job responsibilities, including earning NASFAA CORE credentials.
Completing Meet and Greet, Open House, and Financial Aid Workshop duties as needed to assist students at the main campus and in high schools with the financial aid process.
Please note that some weekend (approximately three to four weekends per year) and evening work may be required during peak processing times (i.e. early January, late July - August).
Working independently to meet deadlines and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Other duties as assigned by the financial aid administrator.
Typical Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required. An associate's degree or related experience of up to two years is preferred. Knowledge of basic office functions, computer software programs (such as Banner), and word processing skills are needed, as well as excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written / grammatical), and interpersonal skills. The ability to maintain confidentiality is also required.

Retirement Plan : The college matches your 6 percent contribution (tax exempt dollars) towards TIAA / CREF or Teacher's Retirement System. Thus, 12 percent of your gross salary is working for your retirement income. New employees must join TIAA / CREF.
TIAA Total Disability Benefits Plan : Optional employees coverage that provides (1) monthly income and (2) payments of premiums to your TIAA / CREF retirement plan to participating employees who suffer total, long-term disabilities. The cost is adjusted according to individual salary on a yearly basis. Employees become eligible upon completion of the first year of employment.
