Description:Glenwood Academy offers a school counseling program integrating academic, career, and personal/social development. Counseling, consultation, collaboration, coordination, case management, guidance curriculum, and programmatic support are the primary delivery methods in an effective counseling program. Under the direction of the Head of School and Director of Specialized Programming, serves the counseling program of the school.
Essential Duties:
The salary for this 9 month position will be based on a salary scale. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the procedures of Glenwood Academy.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Certificate commensurate to the position is preferred.
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the flexibility to move around the school and classroom.

Essential Duties:
- Develops, manages, and communicates the comprehensive school counseling program with all stakeholders
- Maintains current and appropriate resources for teachers and support staff
- Provides services through the curriculum and student planning programs
- Implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities
- Assists students, individually or in small groups with developing academic, career, and personal/social goals to ensure they are prepared for their personalized post-secondary pathways
- Collaborates with teachers to develop and monitor personalized learning plans
- Assists teachers in interpreting and understanding student data
- Collaborates with the teachers to support their facilitation of social skills instruction
- Provides social skills training, as appropriate
- Supports the schoolwide positive behavior supports program
- Supports the implementation of behavior intervention plans
- Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs; consults and collaborates with parents/guardians, teachers, and administration
- Monitors student academic and social performance and assists with appropriate interventions
- Implements an effective referral and follow-up process, monitors the referral data to inform instructional practices and support of the classroom teachers
- May support schoolwide schedule with duties that ensure the implementation of preventive and proactive strategies (arrival, lunch, dismissal)
- Plan and implement instructional programs and services that adhere to the school mission and meet the strengths, interests, needs, and abilities of each student.
- Maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
- Create a learning environment that nurtures the talents and development of all students.
- Prepare long term and short term plans for physical education and health courses.
- Provide a specialized learning environment, aligned to standards, that accelerates student learning.
- Plan and utilize varied methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that support each student in achieving learning objectives and outcomes.
- Prepare appropriate lesson plans and specialized instruction for physical education and health classes/courses assigned to achieve learning outcomes.
- Monitor student progress and design lessons aligned to student needs.
- Evaluate student performance through observations, assignments, tests, quizzes, informal and formal assessments.
- Provide input to student educational plans and team processes.
- Maintain complete and accurate student records.
- Communicate student progress to students and parents/guardians. Meet with students and parents to support progress and growth.
- Oversee the appropriate use and care of instructional materials, resources, and equipment.
- Collaborate with school administration, colleagues, support staff, parents, and community members in the best interests of students.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and serve on various committees/workgroups.
- Improve skills and knowledge base in current trends, evidence-based practices, technology, and interdisciplinary connections.
- Oversees technology support for inventory and maintenance of devices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the principles and pedagogy. Knowledge of state standards and specialized, research-based interventions.
- Knowledge of the strengths and needs presented by students with language based learning differences.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when discussing students progress and concerns with staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
- Ability to implement effective lesson plans to support the educational program.
- Ability to work with diverse learners.
- Possess basic technology knowledge to support student learning and clerical tasks.
- Skilled in technology competency and software applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Ability to demonstrate strong human relations skills.
- Ability to have positive and professional communication with staff, administrators, parents, and/or the community.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in an applicable field.
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Certificate commensurate to the position is preferred.
- Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Certificate with an endorsement in Counseling is required
- Valid certificate in the content area
- Special Education experience or certification
- Three previous years of counseling experience
