What are the responsibilities and job description for the Activity Director position at Glenwood Village Care Center?
To plan for and provide activities to residents residing in the Care Center and Parkview Court; enhancing and enriching the emotional, spiritual, social, and physical lives of each individual based on the comprehensive resident assessment. Develops programs compatible with resident’s known interests, needs, abilities and preferences. The goal of the Activity Director is to support the highest level of independence for each resident, while identifying strengths and deficits. Engages residents in activities of interest and promotes quality of life for each resident. Provides leadership and guidance to the employees within the Activity Department.
Qualifications
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and kneel occasionally.
- Frequent twisting, reaching above shoulder height, and pushing/pulling wheelchairs or carts.
- Ability to stand for most of the shift.
- Proficient in reading, understanding, and writing legibly; vision must allow reading 10-point print.
- Capable of hearing resident calls for assistance.
- Work Independence:
- Ability to work independently up to 100% of the time.
- Language Skills:
- Must be able to read and speak English.
- Professional Qualification:
- Must be a qualified activities professional, recognized by an accrediting body or approved training course. If not certified or degreed, must be willing to obtain certification.
Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrate dependable, professional work habits.
- Develop a monthly calendar for resident activities.
- Maintain staff schedules for diverse activities seven days a week.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules to enhance activities.
- Plan an annual volunteer luncheon.
- Conduct annual staff evaluations and address discipline issues promptly.
- Serve as the newsletter editor three times a year.
- Assist in marketing by documenting events.
- Participate in dementia training and programming for staff.
- Acquire and manage activity supplies.
- Schedule transportation for events.
- Plan programs for holidays and special events.
- Attend weekly and monthly department head meetings.
- Foster positive relations with residents, families, and the community.
- Adhere to Standard Precautions and infection control practices.
- Ensure effective communication and cooperation across departments.
- Oversee development and evaluation of the activity program.
- Contribute to individual care plans based on resident needs.
- Maintain a clean environment and report hazards.
- Participate in safety and disaster planning drills.
- Follow all Glenwood Retirement Village policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
