The Portfolio Manager plays a critical role in advancing this mission by managing grant strategies and operations aligned with Glick Philanthropies’ funding priorities in designated focus areas. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy and collaborating closely with grant committees, staff, and nonprofit partners, the Portfolio Manager oversees key aspects of the grantmaking strategies and operations.

As a result, this position will learn about the perspectives and challenges of both grantees and grant-seekers and the issues that impact Glick Philanthropies’ focus areas. The ideal candidate will have:

This is a position of importance due to the incumbent’s access to confidential information and plans related to the operation of Glick Philanthropies. Incumbent must possess highly developed organizational skills, understanding of technology, and must maintain high standards of ethics and confidentiality.
Responsibilities
Grantmaking, Programs, and Learning
- Serve as the point of contact for nonprofits within designated grantmaking portfolios, with responsibility for all aspects of grantmaking, community engagement, and learning.
- Conduct reviews of assigned grant-seekers and grantees.
- Review and analyze the financial condition, operations, and programmatic prospects and outcomes of potential and existing grantees.
- Work with Glick Philanthropies’ leadership, board, grant committees, and staff team to develop and drive grantmaking priorities, strategies, and tactics within designated focus areas.
- Conduct internal meetings, site visits and due diligence meetings with potential and existing grantees.
- Evaluate preliminary grant-seeker inquiries in assigned portfolios.
- Maintain an ongoing and helpful relationship with grantees and serve as a continued resource.
- Present a slate of grant applications to Glick Philanthropies' board and advisors.
- Work collaboratively across the department to ensure comprehensive and accurate internal data management.
- Track grant-seekers and manage grantee files and data.
- Attend continuing education events, trainings, and briefings to stay current on best practices in grantmaking and within focus areas.
Special Projects
- Support the coordination of various events including grantee convenings and board retreats.
- Actively support the development of Glick Philanthropies’ strategic plan, annual grantmaking plan, board meeting materials and other materials for the board and committees.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience is required.
- Three or more years of applicable nonprofit management, economic/community development, business management and/or program development experience.
- Strong commitment to the social sector with a keen understanding and respect for the challenges non-profits face raising funds and sustaining operations.
- Demonstrated understanding of greater Indianapolis, the concept of trust-based philanthropy, and experience in Fluxx grants management system is a plus.
- Understanding of grantmaking process and familiarity with best practices in grantmaking, through a foundation or grantee perspective.
- Strong alignment with Glick Philanthropies’ mission and values of equity, compassion, and integrity.
- Strong leadership track record.
- Ability to speak, write, and dress in a professional and appropriate manner. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with others in a professional and appropriate manner, including the ability to discuss multiple concepts with others.
- Proficiency with basic office equipment and extensive knowledge of MS Office products is required. Experience working on the Internet and with integrated database software is also required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, occasionally including evening and weekend meetings or events as necessary.
- Ability to travel between multiple office locations and attend off premise events, such as community events and meetings.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license in the state of residency.
- Must be able to read and comprehend the English language.
- Fluent in Spanish is a plus.
