Glidden Point Farm Manager
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Oyster Farm Manager to oversee all aspects of our oyster farming operations. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about oyster cultivation techniques, possess strong leadership abilities, and have a passion for sustainable aquaculture practices. As the oyster manager, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations, supervising staff, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maximizing productivity and profitability.
Reports to President
Key Responsibilities:
Farm Operations Management:
- Oversee all aspects of oyster farming operations, including Seed Purchasing, Upwellers, Nursery, Seed Sorting, Harvesting, Overwintering, Planting, Sorting and Packing.
- Develop and implement efficient farming techniques to optimize oyster growth and yield.
- Monitor environmental conditions and adjust farming practices accordingly to ensure optimal oyster health and quality
- Lease Writing - to increase production and in order to adjust farming processes.
Staff Supervision and Training:
- Recruit, train, and supervise farm workers, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols and follow proper farming procedures. Adhere to company policies.
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to ensure high standards of performance.
Quality Control and Compliance:
- Implement quality control measures to maintain high standards for oyster size, shape and taste.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including environmental regulations, food safety standards, and licensing requirements. (Tagging, Vibrio Logs, Lease Requirements
- Keep detailed records of farm activities, production yields, and inventory levels. (Weekly Farm Log)
Equipment Maintenance and Procurement:
- Manage the maintenance and repair of farm equipment, such as boats, oyster cages and bags, processing equipment.
- Coordinate the procurement of supplies, equipment, and materials necessary for oyster farming operations
Financial Management:
- Develop and Manage budgets for farm operations, including expenses related to labor, supplies, and equipment.
- Identify opportunities to increase productivity and reduce costs while maintaining profitability.
- Grant Writing - for project that would add value to our farm operations
This Position is required to work the hours needed to get the job done. This requires weekends. Storm Watches and Emergency Repairs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in aquaculture, marine biology, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience in oyster farming or aquaculture management, with strong understanding of oyster cultivation techniques and industry best practices.
- Leadership skills with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate a team.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and food safety standards related to aquaculture operations
- Strong Planning Skills
- Excellent organizational and problem solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks associated with oyster farming
- Scuba Diving
- Ability to work with little or no supervision
