Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced and detail-driven Reinsurance Accounting Director to lead reinsurance accounting operations at a leading commercial P&C insurer. This individual will oversee the accounting processes related to assumed and ceded reinsurance, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in reinsurance accounting, strategic thinking, and a collaborative leadership style.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct daily reinsurance accounting activities, including transaction recording, reconciliation, and ledger maintenance.
- Interpret and operationalize complex reinsurance contracts in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Establish and uphold internal policies and procedures for reinsurance financial operations.
- Ensure timely issuance of billing statements and collections from reinsurers.
- Deliver comprehensive financial reports on reinsurance activities, including premium and claims reconciliations and related analyses.
- Identify trends and variances through financial data review; advise leadership on potential improvements.
- Collaborate with the broader finance organization to ensure accurate consolidation of reinsurance data into financial statements.
- Perform routine account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies effectively.
- Manage communication with underwriting, claims, and external reinsurers to address contract-related issues.
- Track reinsurance recoverables and ensure timely settlement of outstanding balances.
- Maintain strict adherence to accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal control procedures.
- Prepare for internal and external audits, providing all necessary documentation and insights.
- Keep current on evolving regulatory developments and industry practices; recommend process updates as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Significant experience in reinsurance accounting within the insurance industry, ideally in the commercial P&C space.
- Strong technical knowledge of reinsurance arrangements, accounting principles, and regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems; experience with reinsurance tools (e.g., RMS, AIR) is an advantage.
- Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex datasets.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team leadership and collaboration.
