Job Description: Electrical Engineer – Operations and Maintenance

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Operations and Maintenance team at our Baytown, TX location. This role requires expertise in electrical systems, process knowledge, and maintenance of equipment in a refinery or chemical plant environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment, as well as supporting pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Standards & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as IEEE, NEMA, ASME, CE, and other related electrical engineering standards.
- Electrical Design & Documentation:
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, including one-line diagrams, data sheets, schematics, electrical equipment layouts, and cable schedules. Assist in the preparation and review of vendor and sub-vendor technical documents and drawings.
- Equipment Selection & Sizing:
- Select and size electrical equipment such as transformers, motors, VFDs, generators, HT & LT switchgear, relays, breakers, and cable trays, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and standards.
- Maintenance & Reliability:
- Conduct maintenance on electrical systems and equipment including transformers, generators, motors, circuit breakers, MCC panels, batteries, and more. Oversee preventive, corrective, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies.
- Power System Analysis:
- Perform power system modeling and analysis, including relay coordination, short circuit studies, and arc flash studies. Ensure that the electrical systems meet safety and operational reliability standards.
- Pre-Commissioning & Commissioning:
- Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, ensuring proper installation, testing, and operation of electrical equipment.
- Shutdown & Supervision:
- Manage periodic and emergency shutdowns, including planning, supervision, and coordination of manpower and materials.
- Field Inspections & Recommendations:
- Analyze field inspection data, provide technical recommendations, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Testing & Inspection:
- Conduct function testing of electrical equipment such as battery systems, transformers, motors, relays, switchgears, and grounding systems to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
- Project Engineering Support:
- Provide support for project engineering, equipment erection, and commissioning processes. Assist in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
- Hazardous Area Classification:
- Ensure proper hazardous area classifications, ATEX certifications, and IP ratings are adhered to during design, installation, and operation of electrical systems.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- BE/BS in Electrical Engineering or Electronics and Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
Required Skills & Experience:
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards such as IEEE, NEMA, ASME, CE, and others.
- Understanding of hazardous area classifications, ATEX, IP ratings, and electrical safety standards.
- Strong process knowledge in refineries, chemicals, and related industries.
- Hands-on experience with the maintenance of electrical equipment (e.g., transformers, generators, switchgear, motors).
- Familiarity with power system modeling, relay coordination, short circuit analysis, and arc flash studies.
- Expertise in preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Proficiency in reviewing and creating technical documentation such as engineering drawings, data sheets, and schematics.
- Strong experience in equipment selection, sizing, and technical evaluations.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and implement technical recommendations.
- Previous experience in project engineering, equipment erection, and commissioning.
- Knowledge of Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with equipment criticality assessments and global industrial best practices.
- Familiarity with industrial equipment strategies and reliability engineering principles.
