POSITION OVERVIEW
The AVP, Statutory Implementation & Reporting will join the Des Moines Global Atlantic Life and Annuity to perform functions related to Statutory accounting including monitoring of accounting standards, assist team in implementation of accounting changes, review accounting memos regarding new reinsurance transactions, investments and other transactions to ensure accuracy in Statutory accounting and capital, assist with review of quarterly and annual reporting, yearly audits, and other regulatory requests and audits.
The successful incumbent must be an active team member within the Controller’s team and interact with various departments to ensure adequate control. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong Statutory accounting background, thrive in a changing and dynamic environment, and possess the ability to address and resolve integration and customer issues.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Monitor, research evaluate and implementation of new accounting standards. Collaborate with Accounting Policy team, Regulatory & Governmental Affairs Group, and Regulatory Capital Sub Committee on new standards or reporting requirements and assist in evaluating impact to quarterly and annual reporting needs.
- Participating in design, implementation, and maintenance of Statutory accounting processes.
- Assisting with research, evaluation, and implementation of new accounting standards for regulatory reporting and capital calculations with team members and other departments impacted by reporting changes.
- Review and opine on Statutory accounting impact in new deals, products and regulatory changes to ensure accurate Statutory reporting impact.
- Assist with compiling and coordinating regulatory inquiries & responses with multiple departments within the company to ensure accuracy. and maintaining relationships with regulatory body and state insurance departments.
- Review of quarterly and annual financial statements and capital reporting.
- Performing frequent ad hoc analysis and assist with special projects, as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA preferred but not required.
- 10 years of related Statutory reporting experience. Public Accounting experience a plus.
- Excellent computer skills, including advanced spreadsheet skills, specifically MS Excel.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Familiarity with general ledger systems and experience in full cycle of accounting close (ORACLE PeopleSoft).
- Pro-active, detail oriented, deadline driven; possess excellent documentation and analysis skills.
- Results oriented, flexible, self-motivated, and able to work in a team environment with limited direct supervision.
- Solid written and oral communication skills.
