Principal

Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Principal oversees the instruction and culture of the school building. The

Principal is responsible for both sustaining and improving a culture of high academic excellence.

The Principal will directly supervise the Assistant Principal, the Coach / IB Coordinator, the Dean,

the School Counselor and selected teachers.

Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership

  • Ensures that all students on the campus exhibit strong achievement gains
  • Conducts regular classroom visits in coordination with the Assistant Principal and other

school-based leader, and provides targeted feedback and follow-up for teachers and staff

based on observations

  • Orchestrates non-biased aligned, data-driven, high-quality, ongoing professional learning
  • tuned to staff needs to maximize student learning gains and provide targeted resources and

    support to all teachers

  • Implements the IB program with the New York mandated Learning Standards and Testing
  • Program

  • Routinely leverages student achievement data and other data points to recommend and
  • implement granular and school-wide changes to assure progress towards goals

  • Oversees all aspects of academics and coordinates with leadership on key school functions
  • including but not limited to report card distribution, parent-teacher conferences, family

    celebrations, appropriate supervision at school events, and other initiatives

  • Exhibits a relentless drive to improve the outcomes for, and provides strong programs to
  • address the learning needs of the school’s special education, ELL, economically

    disadvantaged and other populations that require additional supports

    Operations & Compliance

  • Hires and develops mission-aligned and qualified school-based staff
  • Develops the school schedule and assures proper coverage of all posts, transitions, arrivals
  • and dismissals that upholds the school culture

  • Report on activities, organizational development progress, and student achievement to the
  • CAO and other stakeholders as required

  • Ensures compliance with all IB requirements

  • Develops and maintains a school culture of rigor, respect, curiosity, and inquiry
  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times, and cultivates a work
  • environment that is courteous, ethical, supportive, appreciative, and transparent

  • Exhibits self-awareness by being aware of own strengths and weaknesses, working
  • relentlessly to improve upon weaknesses, being open to feedback, able to take responsibility

    for failure, showing a balance in confidence vs. humility and behaving professionally

  • Proactively addresses behavior challenges by upholding a clear behavioral policy and
  • framework. Work with staff, students and parents to ensure universal understanding of

    expectations

  • Works with staff to address student discipline matters with sensitivity and dignity
  • Implements a program of family engagement that builds accountability for student learning
  • and promotes student achievement and global citizenship

    Performs other duties as may be assigned by the CAO
