Job Title: Dock Operator
Job Summary:
The Dock Operator is responsible for managing the loading and unloading of cargo at the dock area, ensuring that goods are safely and efficiently transferred to and from vessels, trucks, or warehouses. This role requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cargo Handling: Oversee and assist in the unloading and loading of goods from trucks. Operate forklifts, and other equipment to move cargo as required.
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of goods being loaded and unloaded. Ensure that inventory is tracked correctly and that the appropriate goods are dispatched to the correct locations.
- Dock Safety: Ensure that all safety procedures and guidelines are followed while working at the dock. This includes inspecting equipment, wearing necessary safety gear, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- Coordination: Communicate with truck drivers, ship crews, warehouse staff, and management to ensure that all operations are conducted smoothly and on schedule.
- Quality Control: Inspect goods for damage during handling and ensure that proper documentation is filled out for damaged or missing items.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance checks on dock equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) and report any malfunctioning equipment to the maintenance team.
- Documentation: Complete shipping and receiving documentation, including bills of lading, shipping manifests, and inventory logs.
- Operational Efficiency: Monitor dock activities to ensure the timely and efficient movement of goods. Ensure that loading and unloading operations meet deadlines.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Some positions may require a technical or vocational certification related to logistics or equipment operation.
- Experience: Prior experience in warehouse operations, logistics, or dock operations is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and other heavy machinery. Basic computer skills for entering inventory and other documentation.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry heavy items, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills to coordinate with team members and external stakeholders (drivers, shipping personnel, etc.).
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues that may arise during cargo handling or dock operations.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure accuracy in inventory tracking and documentation.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to enforce safe work practices.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
