What are the responsibilities and job description for the Global Kids, High School Site Director position at Global Kids?
Global Kids’ (GK) mission is to educate, inspire, and mobilize youth to become global citizens who are positively engaged in the world and are prepared for their future. Over our 36-year history, the organization has engaged thousands of young people in its innovative youth development programs that promote global awareness and action; building their agency to affect change in their community and beyond.
In 2026, Global Kids expects to serve over 12,000 youth and educators in New York City, and Washington D.C., with its core-service delivery model that includes leadership development workshops, comprehensive after-school programs, and community schools. These programs foster essential skills, provide critical support, and establish pathways for future youth success.
The site director will manage our youth development programming at High School for Public Service in Brooklyn, New York. The Director will be responsible for overseeing various core components of our Out-of-School-Time programming. We are specifically looking for a candidate who is well-equipped to oversee global education and youth leadership programming, fostering a sense of leadership; empowering young individuals to become leaders in their communities.
Responsibilities include:
Program Design & Implementation
- Collaborate with other GK program team members on developing yearly curriculum maps aligned with GK outcomes, COMPASS High and 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) program models and contractual obligations.
- Facilitate workshops and activities for GK’s weekly school-based lunch time and after school programs.
- Organize special events such as field trips, mini-conferences, family nights, and performances.
- Ensure student and Global Kids team participation in GK citywide events (this may include weekends).
- Link school-day to extended-day learning opportunities and afterschool programming.
- Occasional overnight and long-distance travel required (college trips, management retreats, conferences).
Contract Management & Administrative Tasks
- Oversee and conduct attendance outreach, recruitment and retention services including attendance monitoring/data review, data entry, conferences and attendance incentive activities and phone calls to comply with GK, COMPASS High, and 21st CCLC requirements.
- Remain informed on current contract guidelines and contractor responsibilities by attending provider meetings and maintaining contact with DYCD Program Manager and 21st CCLC project lead.
- Ensure all staff members are aware of, and follow, any changes and new developments to the program and contractual expectations guidelines and expectations.
- Ensure all program and student records (digital and hard copy) are securely maintained, including but not limited to workshops, field trips, student attendance and incentive forms.
- Follow all fiscal procedures for ordering supplies and reporting on expenses as instructed by Global Kids’ fiscal team.
Partnerships
- Help navigate, secure resources and build/sustain relationships with participants, parents, school staff, other CBOs, and policy makers.
- Partner with school staff (principals, faculty, guidance counselors, parent coordinators, facilities staff) to ensure high quality and safe programming.
- Provide youth and families with guidance and referrals for social services.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with school leadership, teachers, parents, and students, especially through existing inquiry groups such as the School Cabinet and School Leadership Team (SLT).
Supervision and Management
- Manage all day-to-day operations on site and ensure the implementation of quality programming.
- Provide overall support and supervision for staff, including program coordinator, interns, and teaching artists.
- Supervise daily management of tasks (delegate appropriately), facilitate weekly check-ins, conduct program/staff observations with immediate feedback, conduct formal performance evaluations and individual check-in.
- Review and approve bi-weekly time sheets.
- Collaborate with key members of Global Kids staff to recruit, screen, and hire full time and part-time program staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2 years professional experience is required.
- Experience managing government-funded programs such as DYCD, COMPASS High, and 21st CCLC.
- Familiarity with Department of Education policies and protocols.
- Demonstrated experience leading youth development and interactive learning programs.
- Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist pedagogical practices.
- Experience supervising personnel and managing teams is preferred.
- Experience working in school-based settings with knowledge about community organizing and student support services.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with stakeholders in support of programmatic outcomes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for global issues, education, human rights and social activism
- Excellent facilitation, consensus-building and interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
- Strong communication, writing, organizational, and technology skills.
- Fluency in other languages a plus

This full-time, exempt position has an annual salary of $62,400.00 - $ 65,000.00. GK also offers affordable medical benefits (with plans as low as $1/month), dental and life insurance, as well as paid holidays, 12 vacation days (year 1), increasing thereafter based on years of employment, three personal days, and eight sick days. Additionally, the GK offices are closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day. GK staff can also access retail discounts and other benefits through our Professional Employer Organization (PEO).
