What Youll Do Outcomes and Key Success Deliverables

Your success as the Safety Manager will be measured by your ability to deliver the following outcomes over the first 12-18 months :

1. Build and Maintain an Exceptional Safety Culture (50% Focus)

  • Audit and assess current safety systems at all company locations (quarry, processing plants, fleet operations). Within 90 days, present a prioritized improvement plan to leadership.
  • Reduce overall incident rates by 15% within your first year by implementing proactive strategies, including enhanced safety protocols and equipment upgrades.
  • Develop and roll out a company-wide safety training program for all levels of employees. This program must introduce measurable learning objectives and cover both MSHA / OSHA compliance and behavioral safety practices to promote mindfulness and accountability.

2. Ensure Full Compliance with Federal and State Regulations (20% Focus)

  • Achieve a clean compliance audit within the first 12 months of hire by producing a seamless system to track all interactions with MSHA and OSHA.
  • Partner with Plant and Fleet Managers to streamline compliance reporting and implement corrective actions from external audits.
  • 3. Drive Safe Fleet Operations (20% Focus)

  • Standardize and execute a driver safety training program to reduce preventable vehicle incidents by 20% within your first year.
  • Audit and upgrade fleet safety standards to ensure regulatory compliance for commercial drivers.
  • 4. Enhance Safety as a Strategic Priority at the Leadership Level (10% Focus)

  • Work directly with leadership and plant teams to incorporate safety performance into broader business objectives and operational plans.
  • Present quarterly safety metrics and demonstrate how they correlate to operational performance, productivity, and employee retention.

    To achieve these outcomes, youll bring a combination of leadership, expertise, and a proactive, hands-on approach. The following qualifications identify the key capabilities needed to succeed in this role :

    Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven Track Record : Minimum 10 years of safety management experience in manufacturing, mining, or high-risk production environments, OR progressive operations leadership experience with a specialization in safety.
  • Regulatory Expertise : Advanced knowledge of MSHA and OSHA compliance standards for industrial, fleet, and quarry operations. Ability to lead audits and create continuous improvement plans that meet (and exceed) compliance thresholds.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Demonstrated ability to partner with operational leaders to merge safety with production strategy.
  • Education : Bachelors degree in a related field (e.g., Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Management). Graduate studies or certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH) are a plus.

  • Technical Agility : Proficiency with Microsoft Office (intermediate to advanced) and familiarity with reporting tools and systems related to safety management.
