Position Summary:
The Assistant Bursar / Student Accounts is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate student financial records and supporting the daily operations of the Student Accounts Office. This role assists in the billing, collection, and reconciliation of student accounts and provides excellent customer service to students, families, and campus stakeholders regarding tuition, fees, and account balances.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and maintain student account records, including tuition charges, fees, payments, financial aid disbursements, and refunds.
- Generate and distribute student bills in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy and compliance with institutional policies.
- Assist in the collection of past due balances and coordinate payment plans with students and families.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for student account inquiries, resolving issues with professionalism and confidentiality.
- Support semester start-up operations, including registration clearance and refund processing.
- Reconcile student accounts and work with internal departments such as Financial Aid and Registrar to ensure data accuracy.
- Assist with the preparation of financial reports and audits related to student accounts.
- Monitor and enforce institutional policies regarding financial holds, late fees, and collections.
- Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations related to student billing and aid.
- Participate in student outreach and orientation sessions related to financial obligations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Bursar or Director.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in student accounts, bursar operations, or related financial services.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience in higher education or a similar institutional setting.
- Familiarity with Title IV financial aid regulations and FERPA compliance.
Working Conditions:
- Standard office environment with occasional extended hours during peak billing or registration periods.
- Regular interaction with students, staff, and external vendors.
