Test Technician II
Global Technical Systems (GTS) provides innovative, cost-effective, high-tech engineering products and product-based services encompassing latest generation software and hardware solutions and engineering services for defense, homeland security, and other critical Government interests. GTS products and services span a spectrum that includes mission-critical combat systems processors; C4ISR; technology development including threat detection, biometric identification systems, and composite applications for munitions, armor and energy storage; avionics test systems; and lifecycle logistics support and repair. Our Headquarters office in Virginia Beach, VA is search for a Test Technician II to work in-person at 421 South Birdneck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
General Description:
Troubleshoots a variety of complex networks, electronic assemblies, circuit boards, modules and subassemblies. Maintains support equipment, test fixtures and test stations in an operational status. Test and operation of electronic or electro-mechanical components, assemblies and cables using a variety of tools and processes. Detailed reporting and documenting of results.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set up and conduct tests and studies as directed on products, systems, subsystems, components, or other electronic assemblies
- Follow all written and verbal instructions
- Documents actions by completing production and quality forms
- Develop detailed reports and summaries of tests or events
- Under limited supervision, troubleshoot and diagnose electronic assemblies utilizing the technical data package and work instructions
- Work with engineering to assist with test validation and facilitating procedural updates
- Assist Senior Technicians and Engineers with research and development efforts, as needed
- Make every effort to increase productivity and efficiency without compromising quality
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with internal and external procedures, rules, and regulations
- Observe all safety guidelines and report safety concerns to management
- Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude
Work Experience Requirements:
2 years’ experience working as a technician performing integration, testing, and installation of electronic subsystems and equipment
Educational Requirements (or equivalent):
AA, Vocational, Engineering/Science
Working Conditions:
This work is typically performed in a laboratory, production, repair or manufacturing environment. May be exposed to hazards from equipment or hazardous materials (chemicals; i.e. Isopropyl alcohol)). Work may require some physical effort in the handling of materials, boxes or equipment and light lifting less than 30 lbs. While performing duties of this job the employee may be exposed to a warehouse environment and should exercise suitable safety precautions. Essential Skills/Experience:
- 2 Years Electronics Experience (Experience/Education substitution possible)
- Communication proficiency; Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally in both a verbal and written format
- Keen attention to detail and accuracy
- Capable of reading and understanding schematics, drawings, equipment and safety manuals High aptitude for troubleshooting and application of logic for process of error elimination
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems
- Knows and can apply fundamentals of computer networking
- Ability to work well under deadlines and effectively interact with a wide range of personnel
- Ability to start tasks and work with limited supervision
- Solid understanding of electronic fundamentals
- Ability to use general hand tools for minor repairs or reassembly.
- Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance, as required
Beneficial Skills/Experience:
- Confident use of computers and computer systems. Including but not limited to: using hardware and software to program, set up functions, enter data, and process information
- Identify the causes of network configuration problems, using diagnostic testing software and equipment, including manual switch configuration and fiber optic testing
- Knowledge of circuits and electronic components as well as use of equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, electronic loads, etc.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
- Previous experience as a Navy Electronics Technician or Fire Controlman or experience with NPS, BFTT, CANES, or CPS is a plus.
