Description
- The Staff Electrical Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities.
- The Staff Electrical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
- Executes complex assignments requiring the use of advanced electrical engineering techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods.
- Coordinate departmental or divisional project studies, reports, or project design assignments.
- Responsible for performing power system studies and system protection settings coordination on various projects (Up to 500-kV voltage level).
- Develop design basis documentation for protective settings and generate native relay configuration files.
- Conduct design reviews and support quality control.
- Assist project manager in developing the scope of work and conceptual design for the projects.
- Train, guide, and mentor less experienced team members.
- Support business development and marketing initiatives

Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a directly related field plus three (3) years of experience in electrical systems studies in the electric utility or industrial power distribution industry.
- Will accept a Master’s degree plus two (2) years of related experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years of related experience.
- Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer licensure.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
- Previous experience in the development of protective relay settings in the Transmission, or Distribution industry
- Prior experience in commonly utilized system modeling software programs (ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, SKM, etc.)
- Knowledge of protection schemes and philosophies commonly applied at Transmission and Distribution substations.
- Developing native relay setting files using SEL’s AcSELerator and Client’s Enervista software programs
- Ability to read and interpret electrical single lines, three lines, schematics, functional diagrams, etc.
- Designing calculations, including short circuit calculation, current transformer performance and ratio selection, over-current element coordination, zone-distance element selection and coordination, and relay loadability calculation
- The ability to perform Grounding, Arc Flash, and other Power system studies is a plus
- Providing engineering support with construction and commissioning activities for substations
