Job Purpose:
- The OSE Transmission Line Engineer is responsible for determining and documenting the cost-effective solution to construct transmission Line assets with voltages ranging from 69kV to 345kV.
- These projects range from new transmission lines, refurbishments, relocations, and reconductoring. This will require coordination and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- The Option Solution Engineering (OSE) team is responsible for proving the feasibility of proposed options within stage 4.2 Options Solutions Documents (OSDs) and developing a conceptual level cost estimate associated with each option.
Key Accountabilities:
- Prepare conceptual engineering reports called Electric Transmission Line Option Solution Documents (ETLOSD) that document the conditions and scope of various solutions to solve a Planning or Asset Condition need.
- These include new transmission lines, refurbishments, relocations, and reconducting projects.
- Conduct field inspections when required, determine cost-effective solutions, and develop comprehensive engineering reports based on applicable design codes, engineering procedures, and sound safety practices.
- Prepare geographical overviews or .kmz files showing the various transmission line routes and layout options.
- Ensure equipment location meets code, construction requirements, and maintenance requirements. Conduct engineering studies, analysis, and investigations in order to recommend corrective action or to prevent future problems.
- Utilize and understand the company's electric standards, drawings, and Geographical Information System (GIS) to aid in the development of scope and feasibility. Identify Environmental and other permitting efforts along with associated project risks.
- Collaborate with diverse project teams to deliver projects on time with accurate scope and documentation.
- Proactively build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to obtain and share information that will benefit the company and our customers.
- Provided technical guidance, support, and coaching to less experienced engineers.
- Develop and direct small teams with regard to project tasks and technical requirements.
- Investigate the adoption of new and innovative technologies.
- Organize, manage and maintain the schedule of multiple projects running in parallel.
- File project documentation and communication per department procedures.
- Eight or more years of professional experience within a transmission Line engineering function.
- A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited engineering program or AAS Degree in applicable Engineering Technology with drafting/design experience is also
- Experience with transmission design software, including PLS CADD, PLS POLE, and MFAD
- Strong working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and current design codes, especially the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
- Proficient knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and existing electrical design codes.
- Knowledge of materials, equipment, and construction sequencing used in Transmission Line Construction.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrate excellent time management and prioritization skills on large-scale projects involving multiple stakeholders.
