SUMMARY :
Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, the R&D Engineer is responsible for the coordination and completion of projects leading to new product development and new chemical processes / methods to improve company market share or production efficiencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Performs inspections and sets testing models for analysis of raw materials, materials in process, and finished products.
- Researches new material types that align with GCS core competencies and maintain a competitive edge in core industries.
- Acts as a technical resource to recommend existing GCS materials or develop new materials to meet current / prospective customer needs.
- Works in cross-functional teams to perform root cause analysis for production issues.
- Recommends / performs engineering trials to improve current processes or create new ones.
- Acts as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for material handling / hazard protocols.
- Generates material technical data sheets for internal and external use.
- Executes material testing and analyzes test results.
- Participates in continuous improvement projects.
- Supports the introduction, application, and continued use of Statistical Process Controls (SPC) for Manufacturing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Majority of work is performed in a typical office or laboratory environment with no major sources of discomfort. Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions.
WORK AUTHORIZATION / SECURITY CLEARANCE :
U.S. Government Security Clearance at the appropriate level
To conform to U.S. Government export control regulations and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information restrictions, applicant must be a U.S citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorization from the U.S. Department of State or Department of Commerce.
