Job Summary: Rapidly growing global IoT company is seeking a Engineering Manager to lead our Hardware & Firmware Engineering team responsible for all post initial-launch product life-cycle engineering tasks related to firmware, hardware, manufacturing, and product development, while providing support to various internal teams including Quality, Sales, and Service. This role is a perfect fit for a dynamic engineer who wants to remain close to development while progressing in a management capacity within a fast paced multi-tasking environment, and offers significant opportunities for innovation and professional growth.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in embedded firmware, as well as hardware development (preferably both), along with leadership and strong organization skills. This role combines managing a team of engineers and technicians with hands-on engineering contributions.
Key Responsibilities
Firmware and Hardware Development and Support:
- Implement new features in firmware, based on the product roadmap, technology updates, and customer requirements.
- Lead and manage new firmware releases, working with customers and internal aftermarket teams to ensure proper documentation and deployment.
- Support post-release hardware products including design changes, manufacturing support, alternate part selection and approvals, troubleshooting support.
Sustaining Product Support:
- Lead Tier 2/3 support and manage diagnoses, analysis, and resolution of complex issues reported by Support & Service teams or customers. Identify root causes of issues, develop, test, and implement corrective actions. Familiarity with functions such as CAPA, ECO, NCMR, and MRB a plus.
- Monitor and ensure proper operation of factory automated test equipment (ATE) and ensure ATE are updated with the latest firmware and properly capturing device test records during the manufacturing process.
- Recommend alternate components as required from time to time and/or implement hardware changes to fix problems and to ensure continuity of manufacturing.
- Support internal and certain key customer quality teams and contract manufacturing partners to ensure product requirements and engineering driven quality standards are met. Work with quality and other teams to track and report hardware failure trends.
- Manage the RMA tier 2/3 diagnostics processes and quality management tasks including
Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage a small Firmware Hardware & Sustaining Engineering team, ensuring efficient operation and high-quality output.
- Act as a lead individual developer/ contributor (particularly in embedded area) while managing the team s workload and development.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with company objectives and customer needs.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years hands-on experience in embedded firmware development, with a strong focus on C, C , serial protocols, and FreeRTOS.
- Strong familiarity with embedded hardware development, schematic capture tools like Altium Designer, and transition to manufacturing.
- Familiarity with wireless protocols (e.g., BLE, LoRa, WiFi) and ultra-low power design methodologies a plus.
- Experience with product compliance standards such as FCC, CE, UL a plus.
