JOB DESCRIPTION
ASSISTANT TEACHER
The Assistant Teacher reports directly and is primarily responsible to the Education Director of the Center.
The Assistant Teacher will perform the following duties:
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist Master Teacher with both long and short range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy
- Provide input for annual parent conferences regarding children’s development
- Maintain daily open communication with parents
- Keep accident reports
- Maintain anecdotal records
- Maintain confidentiality
- Report any suspected abuse to Education Director
- Arrange a classroom environment in accordance to program goals and philosophy
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment
- Inspect and replace damaged or lost materials
- Attend in-service and staff meetings
- Enroll in and complete a minimum of 20 clock hours of job related training per year
- Keep all appropriate records such as attendance records and time sheets
- Meet all applicable licensing regulations

Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- A CDA (Child Development Associates Credential) (optional)
Requirements:
- Graduate of a high school or has GED certification
- Criminal history investigation
- Demonstrates the ability to perform assigned job responsibilities
- Recognizes and acts to correct hazards to physical safety, both indoors and outdoors
- Works with children without recourse to physical punishment, mistreatment or child abuse
- Demonstrates good judgment as evidenced by prudent and responsible behavior that reasonably ensures the health and safety of children in care
- Sensitive to the needs of children and their parents
- Evidence of judgment to handle crisis situations
- Dependability
- Ability to keep simple records
- Must be able to lift and/or carry children up to the maximum of 70 lbs.
- Job requires some bending, kneeling, squatting and walking
- Running required only in emergency to assist a child
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $13.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
