Job Title: Erosion Control Specialist/Resource Conservationist
Annual Salary: starting $48,000 plus benefits (NJ State Pension & Health Benefits)
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for inspecting construction sites to ensure compliance with plans certified under Chapter 251, the New Jersey Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Act.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Inspects construction sites to assure erosion control measures are being carried out as specified on the Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Plans
-Interprets plans and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with the
State Standards for Soil Erosion and Sediment Control
-Reviews and certifies soil erosion and sediment control plans and reviews and authorizes Stormwater Discharge Permits
-Is responsible for seeking compliance for any other applicable soil disturbances within a given route
-Consults and corresponds with engineers, contractors, concerned citizens, regional and municipal officials on various aspects of review and implementation
-Completes reports to document status of projects, time expenditure, and compliance with Chapter 251
-Uses references and terminology relevant to erosion control, soil and water conservation and management
-Assists other field personnel with more complex enforcement efforts
-Familiarity with basic computer operations and proficiency with programs including: Word, Access, and Excel. Practical application of GIS.
-Perform other relevant duties, as requested by the District Manager and/or
District Board of Supervisors
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
-General knowledge of and familiarity with basic concepts of soil erosion and sediment control and soil and water conservation
-General knowledge of construction techniques
-Familiarity with construction details, conservation practices, aerial photographs and topographic maps
-Familiarity with basic computer operations and proficiency with programs including: Word, Access, and Excel. Practical application of GIS
-Ability to keep current with literature and other source material pertaining to soil erosion and sediment control
-Ability to prepare clear, informative, and technically accurate reports
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in agriculture, engineering, environmental science, or related field from a four year college or university.
General: Computer proficiency, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
