GMGIs Development team executes all activities related to philanthropic contributions in support of the marine genomics research institute, Gloucester Biotechnology Academy, and organization-wide priorities. The Development team is growing with the goal of securing even greater support for organizational priorities and operations. The Development Associate will play a critical role in GMGIs efforts to cultivate and enhance philanthropic support. Charitable giving supports GMGIs ability to address critical challenges facing our oceans, human health, and the environment as well as our efforts to offer young people new career pathways in the life sciences and biotechnology.
Reporting to the Development Director, the Development Associate will manage donor relationships, lead select donor cultivation events, conduct prospect research, and work cross-functionally to help ensure a seamless and successful development program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Manage a portfolio of donors with annual fund to 5-figure potential.
Provide tours, conceptualize and implement small group donor cultivation experiences, and host donor events at GMGI and off-site locations.
Work collaboratively with Development team, Communications, and GMGI Leadership, as needed, to implement a range of strategies including event logistics, mailing campaigns, or special initiatives.
Manage the grant application process for a select number of foundations.
Develop a deep understanding of GMGIs mission, programs, and values, demonstrating an ability to translate complex concepts to donors.
Bring an entrepreneurial mindset to the growth of the Development program, striving to improve and extend relationships with donors and prospects in ways that have a quantifiable impact on philanthropic revenue.
Track moves management actions of prospects and donors in donor management software (Salesforce).
Conduct research on individuals and foundations to increase the pipeline of prospects.
Other duties as assigned by the Development Director in support of prospect and donor cultivation.
Work Experience Requirements :
24 years of experience in development, fundraising, or event coordination.
Exceptional organizational and communication skills with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated proficiency in donor database systems (Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to communicate professionally with a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders including donors, leadership, GMGI board members, Gloucester community, and Academy students.
Availability to attend and staff various events as part of Development activities including occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.
Confidentiality; diplomacy and discretion.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe required.
