Teaching Assistant & Lab Technician (2 positions)
Location: Gloucester, MA (55 Blackburn Center) / Boston, MA (TBD)

Reports to: Lead Teacher
Full-time: 40 hours/week, starting June 30, 2025
About the Role
This isn’t your average teaching position. As a Teaching Assistant & Lab Technician at Gloucester Biotechnology Academy, you’ll benefit from a low student-to-teacher ratio, engaged students, and strong community support. Our graduates log more lab hours in nine months than most four-year degree programs, preparing them for impactful careers in biotech, life sciences, and pharmaceuticals.
In this role, you'll be part of a dynamic, supportive teaching team, assisting with lab instruction, curriculum development, and daily lab operations. A passion for both teaching and science is essential. With our program expanding to Boston, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing, high-impact STEM initiative—one that truly changes lives.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist in teaching laboratory technique and instrumentation
· Lead classroom instruction as comfort level allows
· Provide student assessments, feedback and professional development
· Support curricula improvement and test new protocols
· Prepare materials and set up labs for daily experiments
· Maintain chemical, consumable and equipment inventory
· Manage waste streams including consumables recycling and biohazardous materials disposal
· Perform routine maintenance of instruments and safety equipment
· Engage in community outreach, recruitment, internships and alumni support
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, molecular biology, or biotechnology or equivalent laboratory experience/training.
• Passion and enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring.
• Experience with modern biotechnology instrumentation and methods.
• Sound understanding of accepted laboratory techniques and practices.
• Ability to explain scientific concepts to non-scientists.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• High energy, can-do attitude, capable of working in a dynamic environment.
• Proactive, adaptable, and team oriented.
