Excavator Operator

Job Title: Excavator Operator
Reports to: Superintendent
Classification: Non-Exempt
Pay Scale: $24-$28/hour

Glover Construction is currently looking for an experienced excavator operator in the Emporia, VA area.

Excavator sizes are CAT 320, CAT 336, CAT 349, CAT 385. Please list sizes (or size equivalents in other brands) in application.

Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to primarily run an excavator, with opportunities to also run variety of equipment in various terrains and conditions in order to help achieve construction goals in a timely manner. Heavy equipment may include: Excavator, Dozer, Farm Tractor, Compactor, Roller

Duties and Responsibilities

• Document pre-inspection equipment checklist and maintain equipment log book;
• Have an understanding of the importance of site grades and the use of in-cab technology to achieve results;
• Create level surfaces, grade slopes to specifications, remove material and thoroughly fill voids using plans, files, and/or a surveyor as guidance;
• Visually inspect construction sites to check for land grading, the location of various underground utilities, and other obstacles that may deter or affect construction;
• Exercise good judgment and clear communication skills when communication with surrounding equipment operators, truck drivers and laborers;
• Utilize knowledge and expertise of equipment to prevent and interpret any mechanical problems or errors that may occur;
• Track daily progress and accurately report information to job superintendent;
• Safely execute all job responsibilities;
• Follow all job site safety rules and wear proper PPE at all times; and
• Complete other general construction tasks, as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications include:

• Valid Driver’s License
• Minimum 2 - 4 years of experience operating heavy equipment listed above on a construction site performing mass excavation and grading

Working Conditions
Although, operators will typically be in an enclosed cab, this position requires working outside where conditions may vary depending on the weather and may include extreme hot or cold outside temperatures, saturated grounds, rocky or hilly terrain and moderate precipitation.

Physical Requirements
This position involves sitting for extended periods of time, as well as the ability to climb up and down to enter and exit equipment.

Other Requirements

Applicants will be required to complete a background check, pre-employment drug screen, and a drug screen conducted by the client in order to gain access to the project site to begin work.
