Summary
Inspection, repairs, testing, and pre-trip of empty and loaded rail cars. Direct locomotive operator in the maneuvering and position of rail car for loading and shipment in accordance to the Association of American Railroads standards, Federal Railroad Administration laws, Hyundai Glovis Transportation and Handling Manual and Hyundai Glovis Rail Safety and Operating Procedures Manual.
Responsibilities
- Perform in a safe manner; always adhering to all FRA operating rules, AAR rules and Hyundai Glovis Transportation and Handling Manual, and Hyundai Glovis Rail Safety and Operating Procedures Manual.
- Pass a operating rules class within 2 months of hire
- Measure distance between rail car junctions to AAR standards
- Follow Blue Flag signal law
- Properly operate manual track switches and derails
- Inspect tracks for serviceability and report abnormalities
- Communicate with locomotive operator and van drivers (rail loading team leads)
- Report all hazard/injuries/near misses to supervisor
- Ensure tools and equipment are being utilized in the manner they were designed to be used
- Maintain equipment, tools, and vehicle in good working standard.
- Report to supervisor any defective tools, equipment, track
- Maintain records of rail cars inspected and pre-trip.
- Turn in any records to rail clerk for processing and storage.
- Follow all safety procedures
Secondary
- Have a good understanding of daily tasks, and performing it in safe productive manner, without errors
- Read and interpret destinations on track sheet
- Maintain records of rail cars spotted for loading and taken out for CSX pick up
- Conduct air tests on rail cars set out for pickup by CSX
- Ascend and descend rail car ladder (using 3 points of contact), as necessary.
- Blocking rail cars in tracks.
- Perform other duties assigned
- Clean up of work area and out of work area
- When needed assign to perform other departmental duties
- Lock out switches
Tertiary
- Ability to work in a team setting. Taking the initiative to perform duties
- Apply hand brakes to rail cars
- Daily bleeding air out from yard air compressor
- Drive company vehicle
- Operated manual track switches
- Observe and ensure tracks are not being fouled or obstructed by other equipment or personnel.
Qualifications
Skills
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally or in writing
- Ability to interpret and follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to record and verify numbers characters in length
- Ability to perform general math equations
- Ability to work as a team member in a high risk environment
- Familiarity with MS Office Products preferred
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma/G.E.D
- Must hold a valid state-issued driver's license without restrictions
- Rail Operations training preferred
- Locomotive Engineer training preferred
