What are the responsibilities and job description for the Orleans County YMCA Program Instructor for Homeschool position at Glow YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program Coordinator or Director, the YMCA Program Instructor is responsible for the advocacy of a healthy and active lifestyle, engaging participants in developmentally appropriate activities and instructing participants in a specific field. Instructors are responsible for carrying out lesson plans as instructed and directly supervising program participants to ensure their safety and success. This position provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for participants in YMCA classes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and implement physical education programs tailored to the needs and interests of homeschooling families, focusing on various age groups. To accomplish the YMCA mission and goals. Ensure participation, retention, and enrollment growth.
- Create lesson plans that include a balanced mix of physical fitness, sports skills, teamwork, and personal development. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA. Be friendly, alert, and responsive to participants.
- Assess students' physical development and provide constructive feedback to families on progress and areas for improvement. Encourage and motivate students to participate in regular physical activity outside of scheduled sessions. Provide families with resources, tools, and strategies to reinforce physical education principles at home. Maintain clear communication with families regarding scheduling, progress, and any concerns
- Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values. Stay updated on best practices in physical education and adapt programs to align with current guidelines and trends.
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Attend YMCA meetings, trainings and events as directed.
- Prepare certificates of participation and achievement for participants in each session as directed.
- Ensure that all participants adhere to safety practices
- Always start class/program on time
- Always be ready to spot or assist participants as needed.
- Organizes and puts away the program equipment needed. Reports damaged equipment.
- Instructors will train and supervise aids as assigned
- Participate and assist with fundraisers as directed.
- If assigned Private Lessons coordinate and plan with the patron interested in the lessons.
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 1 year experience preferred in related field.
- Successfully complete the YMCA Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Harassment Trainings upon hire and annually thereafter.
- CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications required within 60 days of employment and must be kept current thereafter.
- Must have knowledge, experience and skills in the assigned area, and the ability to teach others those skills.
- Youth Activities Instructors must have the equivalent of a high School Diploma or GED, or have two years direct experience in leading adult or child activities.
- Martial Arts Instructors must have a minimum of 2 years direct experience working with children under the age of 13.
- Martial Arts Instructors must have at least 3 years of experience/training in martial arts.
- Assistant Swim Instructors must be at least 15 years of age.
- Swim Instructors must be at least 16 years of age.
- Group Exercise Instructors must be at least 18 years of age
PHYSICAL and INTELLECTUAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds associated with demonstrating techniques and moving training equipment.
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of settings.
- Ability to make independent decisions, which adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the YMCA in a fast-paced environment.
