Maintenance Worker I
This is a full-time position and receives all benefits afforded to regular employees. Park Maintenance operates 365 days a year. Holidays and events require flexibility in scheduling.
Summary: This position is responsible for performing various tasks involving maintenance of parks, beach accesses, recreational structures, and related facilities at the following location: Saint Simons Island.
Parks:
- Empty trash and recycling containers; carry/transport trash and recycling to designated areas;
- Mow and edge park grounds;
- Seed, fertilize and water park grounds;
- Apply herbicide and pesticides as directed;
- Install, inspect and repair irrigation systems;
- Prune/remove trees and shrubs;
- Dig hole/trenches and shovel/spread materials;
- Install/repair and paint fences, benches, and picnic tables;
- Remove litter and debris from park grounds, including picnic areas, barbeque grills, and cigarette butt receptacles;
- Remove any small dead animals within the parks;
- Supply dog parks with waste disposal bags and remove waste collection as necessary;
- Perform various custodial tasks in park restrooms to include sweeping, mopping and disinfecting surfaces;
- Replenishing restroom products (soap and paper goods);
- Visually inspect playground areas and equipment, and report any safety hazards to supervisor;
- Repair and paint playground equipment as directed.
Beaches:
- Patrol beaches and accesses for litter, debris, and safety hazards;
- Report safety hazards and any dead/injured wildlife to supervisor;
- Remove dead animals as directed;
- Inspect, report, and repair damage to beach access boardwalks and signage;
- Remove any beach chairs, umbrellas, or tents from the beach, according to county ordinance; install sand fencing, if directed; install/remove Mobi-mats.

Qualifications & Benefits
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED supplemented by two (2) months previous experience and/or training involving general building maintenance, general building trades, road construction/maintenance, grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and/or maintenance work in area of assignment. Valid Driver's License is required.
