What are the responsibilities and job description for the LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE - DRUG COURT position at Glynn County?
This is a full-time position and receives all benefits afforded to regular employees. This position requires working 40 hours per week and the candidate may work in Glynn, Camden & Wayne counties.
Summary : The purpose of this classification is to conduct urine drug screens and other practical nursing tasks for the County Drug Court and other County departments.
Essential Functions of the Job : The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Conducts urine drug screens, TB screens or other tests on Drug Court participants and other clients as requested; receives orders for and / or orders urine drug screens; observes and collects specimens; calibrates analyzer; scans specimens and loads into analyzer; operates analyzer; refills reagents as needed; evaluates, documents and forwards results.
- Maintains proper chain of custody and control of collected specimens; stores and / or seals, identifies and mails specimens in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
- Performs nursing assessments; gathers, records and reports patient body temperature, blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, medical history, etc. maintains related documentation.
- Prepares and processes participant / client charts and records within designated timeframes and per established procedures; receives, reviews, records, and / or distributes charts and records; enters data into computer systems; logs, tracks, or maintains records; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; files, maintains, and stores hardcopy records.
- Maintains file system of participant / client files / records; prepares files, organizes documentation, and files documents in designated order; retrieves / replaces files; scans records into computer; shreds / destroys confidential or obsolete documents; conducts records maintenance activities in compliance with guidelines governing record retention.
- Maintains inventories of supplies, forms, and equipment; ensures availability of adequate supplies to complete work activities; prepares and forwards purchase requisitions for needed materials, equipment, and supplies; receives / distributes incoming supply shipments.
- Performs general custodial duties; cleans laboratory area and bathrooms; empties trash; washes floors, etc.
- Attends court and staff meetings; answers questions and provides information regarding drug screen results, participant well-being, etc.
- Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, memos, attendance records, urine drug screen orders, productivity, client history, spreadsheets,and other documents; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and / or hardcopy records.
- Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, emails, patient records, attendance records, urine drug screen reports, Viva E reports, policies, procedures, manuals and other reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
- Operates or uses various equipment and supplies in order to complete work assignments : operates and maintains a Viva E urine drug screen analyzer; operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions; performs basic maintenance of computer system and office equipment, such as backing up data or replacing paper, ink, or toner.
- Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed; performs other duties as required.
Qualifications : High school diploma or GED; supplemented by completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program; supplemented by two years of experience as a licensed practical nurse; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Special Requirements : Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
