What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - Machinist Department position at GMD Shipyard Corp.?
The Inside Machinist Intern, under direct supervision, will learn to perform shipyard industrial machining projects along with shipyard production machining projects. Relies on direct supervision to plan and accomplish goals.
- Learn to operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts.
- Learn to shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon and other materials.
- Learn to read electronic or written blueprints or specifications for machining projects.
- Follow environmental and safety regulations and act in compliance with US laws.
- Confer with supervisory representatives to discuss existing or potential machining projects.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Use of personal protective equipment such as respirators, hard hats and safety footwear required while on work sites. Work will involve visiting work sites both indoors and outdoors at all times of the year.
