What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laborer - Surface Preparation position at GMD Shipyard Corp.?
The Laborer, under direct supervision, will perform semi-skilled manual work. Relies on direct supervision to plan and accomplish goals.
- Cleaning of tanks, air testing of tanks, and vessel painting.
- Use of hand and power tools, including but not limited to scrapers, wire brushes, needle guns, pneumatic chippers, sandblasting equipment and UHP water blasting equipment.
- Exhibit proficiency in reading blueprints.
- Assist in the docking and releasing of vessels from docks and piers.
- Follow environmental and safety regulations and act in compliance with US laws.
- Provide air and water services to vessels.
- Pump fuel, oil and slops to and from vessels.
- Other unskilled and semi-skilled manual work as assigned.
- Confer with supervisory representatives to discuss existing or potential labor department projects.
Use of personal protective equipment such as respirators, hard hats and safety footwear is required while on work sites. Work will involve visiting work sites both indoors and outdoors at all times of the year.
